Sorry to post another thread in such a short space of time but I couldn't find anything that quite matched my issue by searching.

I have a knocking sound coming from the front left under brakes. It only seems to happen when going into a left hand corner fairly hard and where the road drops away. There is no issue with the brakes or steering (both feel fine). Any ideas?? Thanks!

Might Feel Fine - but I'd be guessing something has worn away
it could be the Anti-Roll bar
Gearbox Mount
Brake Sticking on
A Track Rod End (probably more likely)
A wheel bearing - Do you have a Droning noise at all?

Get it up on a ramp - and give everything a good check over - make sure nothing has lots of play or any play that shouldn't be there

Ziggy

LHS bottom ball joint is top of my list - its unloaded on LH bends. After that the track rod end.

If you take the same corner (1) driving through (2) rolling through and (3) dragging the brakes does the noise change?

Thanks for your help guys. I had the right hand wheel bearing and engine/gearbox mounts done a few weeks ago so it won't be them. The right hand bush was a little worn but they didn't say anything (Fiat) about the left hand one. The track rod ends are fine I reckon, no play at all. I guessed that it's the left hand wheel bearing, no grinding though. Maybe the ball joint then. Is it an easy job?

It only seems to happen on turn in just as the road drops away, i.e. unloaded. Feels fine other than that. No noise when driving through, or rolling through. Just seems to be while on the brakes, and on certain tight corners when the road drops away. Never happens on a flat road.

WhiteSei, you are a posting machine. Thanks!!

Once had a clanging sound when braking and found out that it was due to the fact the mechanic failed to properly secure the brake pads in the calipers.

I think it does it a bit under brakes too so I don't think it's the calipers. I did go to the track today and do just one lap. It's knocking all the way around - I couldn't feel it but I could definitely hear it. Doesn't really make any noise in normal driving though... I don't think it's the top of the strut as there is hardly any movement when I bounce it up and down - there is a very tiny tiny amount of movement but nothing I felt to be out of the ordinary.

regular knocking noise could be faulty cv joint. it sound , when turn wheels while driving.. .... i'd guess.
easy change ... just recently changed cv boot... know well how to take off and put back.

edit. while braking, bigger load on it, reason why knocking ... it on the way out... i'd say... that could be one of some reasons.
