When ever i go down a bumpy road or over speed bumps, the back of the car makes a creeking noise??? does anyone know what the problem is? could it be the suspension ??? HELP!

if its a mk2 punto then its probly the handbrake cable rubbers on the rear axle.

i had something simalr to this on my mk2 but would get loud creak/grind noise when going over speed bumps or large bumps especially if people in back of car.

on mine it was my exhaust backbox rubbing on rear axle as it was intsalled at slightly wrong angle(non fiat exhaust) the exhaust paases over the axel in arch shape . you can check this your self by laying on floor at back. you will be able to see the backbox for the exhaust and any marks on axle if its been rubbing also you can reach in with hand and can chekc the room between the axle and back box. on mine there was barely enough room for my finger bewteen them. i got it checked at exhaust place and indeed it was that, they just roated exhaust a few degrees and it was sorted.

took me 6 months to figure it out. went into 2 garages including fiat over the noise and none of them found it.

I have current problem on my punto now, squeeking coming from the rear, at first I thought it was the suspension, A friend of mine says its somthing to do with the handbrake on, as when you put it in 1st gear with the handbrake on and dip your clutch is squeeks as it hits the handbrake. He says I need to put some grease on the drum at the back, Is this the case? or should I get it looked at professionally ?

hey i got me car checked out and was to do with the handbrake cable! aparently it's a common fault on mk2 punto's! so it anyones gta funny creeking noise cumin from the rear, get ya handbrake cable checked out! thank 4 all your replies!

Sorted I will do that how much did you pay?

well i got fiats 2 check it out when it went in 4 a service coz its still under warrenty but it wouldnt cost that much to get it done, or so im told. let me know wot price u get!

Yeah will do, mine is a MK1 punto tho, dunno if its a different problem

Oh, might be but i know a couple peeps wit a mark 1 tat ad the same prob! well get it checked out and let me know what happens!

I had same problem with mine and it turned out to be exhaust pipe rattling off the axle too. Was quite deceiving though because it started off really quiet then got worse (panic set in at this point lol) needed a quick weld to put the back box back onto its holding bracket.

Is it a mk 2?if so do this get someone to go round all the rear suspension nuts and bolts and tighten them more and then get a tin of silicon spray and spray all the bushes and spring housings and shocker rubbers and handbrake holders with it .g.l.
