Hi. After setting off to Cornwall, my little Punto overheated L. It looks like the head gasket has gone and still wondering what to do with it.

Now my mum has found (and lent me the money for) a little identical Punto! Now it has loads of receipts showing the old lady who owned it previously had spent £1,000’s on it in the last few years (wondering if the garage may of done un-needed work) but has had new clutch, brakes, services, head gasket and rebuild, wishbone, shocks… the list goes on.

Now the heater only works on speed 3. The heat still comes out warm but when trying to turn the power down, it either cuts off or makes a really horrible winding down noise from in the dash. Anyone any ideas what it could be? I do still have the other Punto so I can steal bits off that if need be.

What would you recommend doing with the other car? It’s in good nick (apart from the head gasket) and I think I could get £150 for it off someone who could break it down and make a profit. Or would it be better to get it fixed and sell it on?

Thanks, Adam

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but I'm stuck as to what to check or replace and don't want to pull my dash apart before knowing what to do.

Thanks

The problem may be as simple as a faulty fan speed switch or perhaps the earth for it. That would be the easist to change. If that doesn't solve the problem, you may need to replace the fan motor.
