Hello im thinking of exchanging my 57 plate panda for a 2005 fiesta st
but the value of my panda 100hp p/x is £6,395 and the price of the fiesta is £5,995 ono which is less than the value of 100hp,
just wondered what would happen/how it would work?
Thanks.

You give the seller your car and they give you a Fiesta ST and £400.

Or some magic beans, depends where the seller is located and if he's called Jack.

are you sure your going to get that much for your panda.
when i traded my panda 100hp (that was about two years old) in i only got £5000 and it was very low miles.
that was about 8 months ago and i still regret it now

What'll happen is that you'll think, "What the hell have I just done?"

yeh when i last checked whatcar 6six months ago they said it was worth 5 something but the 2nd hand car prices n general car prices has increased

For fun I got a quote from webuyanycar.com for my six month old Active. They valued it at £4,745, which considering I paid £5,500 for it new wasn't at all bad.

what do you mean?
the fiesta has every thing that the panda has but a 2.0 litre 150bhp instead of 1.4 99bhp think in my opinion the only thing the ford lacks is character, even though it holds a ford badge its a really good car.

My main point is the frustration factor - I was in a grump after spending most of a day driving round Devon on what should have been an enjoyable mixture of lanes and main roads in the 100HP (including the A382 down the east side of Dartmoor that I mentioned in another thread) and there had been about two minutes when my driving wasn't totally dictated by traffic conditions - especially huge artics on roads that they should be kept away from and very badly driven large (not Panda) 4x4s - or fatuously sited speed cameras, rather than by the road itself or the capability of the car. Given the extra costs of the Fiesta and the increased frustration factor, plus the lack of character that you mention, I just suspect that you may regret the swap. Hope I'm wrong.

Someone at work has a Fiesta ST and he says he can never keep below 100mph on the motorways and dualcarrage ways and has even admitted himself he's waiting for a driving ban :nono:

The ST is a very powerful car, but like you say, lacks charecter (sp?), so give it 6 months, you'll be bored and possibly wanting to change the car?

Out of interest why are you wanting to change the 100hp?

Jon.

150bhp is not a very powerful car. Sure an ST is usefully quicker than a 100hp and will be quick enough. IMO an M3 with 340bhp is a very powerful car. I'm not sure i'd consider my 200bhp Integra R as a 'very powerful' car, though it's quicker than most things you are going to encounter on the road I guess.

I've not been in an ST, not sure it lacks 'character' though, Ford are pretty good in the chassis department these days, they do have pretty good reviews for the ST IIRC.

I guess the point is that with a more powerful car, is that overtakes are a lot easier so you can get past the 'frustration'. Remember driving a friends honda engined elise (an 'eRise) down a fast A road one time. Instead of just overtaking one or two cars I was able to overtake 5 in one go, believe me you weren't held up for long, but the I remember looking at the speedo in the midst of VTEC and thinking, hmmm just passed 5 cars and err i'm doing 120mph. Oops!

Don't do it  I have just come from a 150BHP Bravo and yes it is more powerful and a bit quicker, well actually not much as its a fat heifer, anyway back to my point the Panda is just fun. It makes me smile when I drive it, it makes me feel as thought I am traveling at 100mph when I am only doing 60 that can not be a bad thing can it?
I am sure the Ford is a nice car but thats all it is a nice car the same way the Bravo was a nice car, its hard to explain the Panda has so much more character and feels a bit special. I personally have not had as much fun since I had an proper shape mini cooper a number of years ago. The Cerbera is fun, massive fun if you want to go to jail on a regular basis can be called fun. Stick to the Panda you know you won't regret it :worship:

Is it a private deal or with a trader/dealer?

trader/dealer
but as i said at start was thinking of changing not 100% going to change,
its just when you get on to a slip road and you put your foot down it soon runs out of pull because its a 1.4 for a 1.4 its very good though.
the panda on paper is 9.5-62mph the fiesta is 7.9-62mph
and will still pull nicely upto a higher speed when the 100hp looses its edge

What you think is a 'very powerful car' will really depend on the context, what you are interested in, what you are used to and what you have come from. You said it yourself, in your opinion, a 340bhp M3 is a very powerful car. In my opinion a 611bhp Ferrari 599 is a very powerful car. If you are young and used to small engines, 150bhp in a small hatch will feel very powerful.

As for the second part of the post, it's impressive how you always have a story about driving fast that you can squeeze into a reply (related or not), about something that you have experienced or owned. Of course, you are free to say what you like, but it's just a little tedious if I'm honest. (y)

If it's right for you Tom, go for it. Try and get a drive of the ST first though, on a variety of roads if possible. Think about the extra fuel, insurance and tax that you'll be paying out for too, if you can budget for it for a couple of years then why not go for it, have some fun while you've got the chance!

I would advise you not to trade your car with a dealer against a cheaper car. You will get stuffed more that usual. If you are intent on swapping for another make/model, the best course to take financially would be to sell your car privately and then buy.

why should they be kept away from ?

Because about three miles of a fifteen mile stretch of the road I mentioned - the A382 - are single track, there are two villages where the road is very narrow with sharp corners, and much of the rest is narrower than two of these lorries attempting to pass one another; they continually create chaos and delays which affect people whose own vehicles wouldn't cause these problems. I should have thought that's enough reason.

And how do you think the clothes you wear ,the food you eat , the cars you drive .Infact nearly everything that the average household uses on a daily basis arrives .......... on a LORRY , no lorrys = empty shelves then im sure you would be moaning about that . Hgvs are restricted to 40mph on single carrigeway roads and 50mph on dual carrigeways , and i can assure you that hgvs dont use twisty narrow roads for the fun of it .
