General The project has begun!!!

There's no going back now!!! The interior is almost all out, just the headlining and Dash to do. Taking the airbags out was a little nerve racking. I'm always on edge when I touch them(n)(n)

The interior sold on Ebay to a guy in Devon with a 4x4. He doesn't look on these Forums, but will be now, so he says.

I'll get those Airbags back on Ebay tomorrow, I don't want them lying around for too long!!

Just in case anyone is wondering what their panda looks like with no Dash, here you go. The Dash supporting beam that carries the gearshift and Heater/Aircon, looks mighty heavy!!!!

Looks like a scaffolding pole ;)

Is it going or staying? Looks lieka bit of effort to remove it, espcially mounting the steering rack.

Kristian

It's actually a work of Art Kris. I will certainly look at rmoving some of it. It supports the dash, gearshift, aircon and column.

It'll also get in the way of the logitudinal bars from the cage to the front top mounts??

I'll probably fabricate something lighter and simpler, after all, it would be nice to get the column a little lower than standard.

Impressive. The interior strip down is coming along nicely.

More pics!

I know the AC is going, not sure on the heater though, have to wait for an official response :D

The official response is a resounding YES!!! The heater will stay. I remember doing an event in my Lancia once, with no heater, and fighting with a misty windscreen.

I dont think there'll be too much weight in the platic box of the heater alone??

Latest Pics.

I didn't think it would take five minutes to strip this car!!! How wrong was I:bang::bang:

The wiring alone took an age to get out, and as for cutting the glass out!!!

:worship:

Looks great! and I can clearly see the advantage of it being a new car, its clean and nothing is seized!

Was there a "false floor"? The pedals look very high up.

Whats the plan of action now then?

Kristian

The advantages of doing this to a new car are endless.... I know it's never been hit, ie. Straight, as you say, nothing is siezed or stripped or broken, I know that every hose and perishable item is brand new and I dont get dirty taking it apart!!

Theres no false floor in the Panda, but there is a LOT of sound deadening under the carpet.

All in all, I've taken 150kgs out of this car, and thats just the interior I'm talking about!! Obviously some of it will go back in, ie:- Dash, and then theres the weight of the cage.(35kg?????)

I'll just keep going with the stripping now. The engine's coming out today. In fact, it could be a bare shell by tonight??

Well, It's finally done!!:):) It's a shell:):)

Here's a couple of pics to feast upon....

I really dont know how Fiat builds these cars for the price. There's just so much stuff on em!!!

BTW:- The blue and Yellow blanket is where my dog lies while I'm working. She likes to keep an eye on how things are going....

Wow, looks amazing. Wish I had the time, space and money to go back to that level!!

While the engine is out, i thought i'd mention an idea i had with the mountings. A rotrex C15 http://www.rotrex.com/index1.htm should fit nicely in the space where the air con used to go. It will need a wider belt, tensioner, alternator pulley, adn a custom crank pulley (see davethetrike's supercharger thread).

It would also need a decomp plate...ferriday have the 1368cc on file, http://www.ferriday.co.uk/cnc/decompression_plates.shtml .

It wont be cheap, £1500-2000, but i think it would really give it an edge.

Feel free to ignore, it's just one of my aspirations. Sadly cost, and the fact i had to bin the whole mounting and alternator, means its too much of a squeeze in my car.

Yep, they are pretty well built cars! Don't think they get the reputation they deserve. Lets hope the build is still as good if they merge with the french companies!

Cheers,

Kristian

//EDIT -- You missed a bit to strip ;) :D The sill logo's! hehe
