2015 4x4 TA 20,000 m , loving it , yesterday mid gearchange the gear lever lost its return to centre as if a spring has failed , it still works very well, in fact if its possible when i fix it i might fit a lighter one .

That is assuming it is a spring and that its not a major job .
Looking under the bonnet i see a remote set up to the box and assume the problem is under the centre consol

Looked through the forum and not seen this one before ....

Wont be sorting it for a few days,(too busy , and it still works well) but will report back with what i find.

I don't know about the Panda but out Micra did this a few years back. On that there was a spring that had broken. COst was about £2 and 5 minutes to fix. If Mr Haynes would be kind enough to do a workshop book it would be helpful!

The spring fitted between the body and a lug on the gear change rodd / cable

Use ePER to see all the parts in a useful diagram ;)

Either a sticky cable..or failed component.

Hi Chap, had a similar thing on our 500cc TA, ended up only getting 3rd & 5th gears, turns out no linkages , just an expensive set of cables to manage gearshifts. might be a good thing to get checked ouy. Cheers, John

Thanks for replies, i have now fixed it !

better i describe the symptom clearer , loose, in a forward and back motion
spring still there side to side , all gears select .

eper was a good idea to see exploded diagram , but just a mass of pop ups when i tried it ...

i took off the bottom shrouds and tried to work up to the gearchange area
only to discover that after you undo the velcro round the gearchange it is possible to pull the top cover off quite easily , no need for any other parts

there is a "clothes peg" spring on the left but that controls side to side movement , and i looked for an equivalent fore and aft one , nothing to be seen and nothing had fallen to the bottom ( i had taken the lower covers off)
it is a fantastically impressive linkage to convert the movement but no apparent spring , i did after a while notice two yellow clips or connectors
one lower than the other but in the same vertical area . the bottom one looked slightly different than the top .
i pushed the top one in with a screwdriver and was met with a rather satisfying click ... gearchange back to normal ! it only stuck out about 5mm
and was not obvious as a problem

whilst in there i noticed how reverse was selected and engaged , there has been reports of poor reverse selection on here and if you are experiencing this it may be worth popping the cover and having a look , reverse and its
way of engaging are very obvious at the top

mine has signs of distress ( wear on the edge of plastic slider) but changes ok , if it starts to act up i will pop the cover and reinforce with JB weld or similar , sounds crude but the potential problem is obvious .

oh , any tips on eper usage welcomed , i may be able to identify the actual part that caused the problem by part no
