Has anyone else had problems with their remote key fob only working after 3-4 presses of the button?

Mine worked absolutely fine first time until a few weeks ago, when it started to play up. I installed a new battery, but it still worked erratically. So I bought yet another battery, in case Halfrauds had sold me a dud, and it still only worked erratically. (And before you ask, I did buy the correct battery - same serial number as the original). Sometimes it works first time, at other times (with no apparent rhyme or reason) it needs several presses before it operates.

I've tried to analyse its erratic performance scientifically (distance from the car, position of operation in relation to the car, phase of the moon, etc) but there's no apparent pattern to its misbehaviour.

Any suggestions? And if the key's knackered, do you reckon that a replacement would be covered under the warranty?

Whether the specialist you used could swap innards of your remote to a new casing using this vid? [ame]https://youtu.be/ioj_gGyizAY[/ame]

Try cleaning the rear of fob buttons with electric clean spray or alcohol wipe and a cloth, some times a coating builds up.

The little tact switches can get dry soldered joints onto the board, they can be reflowed with a very small soldering bolt and reflow flux, they also can get a bit iffy and a quick blast of contact cleaner sprayed inside the switches will work, either of these will be your problem.

And Ade wins today's Star Prize*- a quick clean of the back of the buttons with an alcohol wipe seems to have done the trick. (y)

Many thanks also to Al D - that video was really helpful! Against all odds, and despite my arthritic fingers and failing eyesight, I managed to take it apart without knackering any of the little tabs. I knew all those childhood years doing Airfix kits would come in useful one day.

Hats off to the absolutely brilliant Panda cognoscenti on here - you are, individually and collectively, a class act. :worship:

(* that's a metaphoric prize though, Ade, so don't get your hopes up!)
