Hi Guys!
New to the site so bare with me.
I'm a long-term cinq/Seic owner and just baught a panda 4x4. It's a '88 999cc version.

Let's say I ripped out my Seic 1.1 SPi engine. Would it fit into my panda with regard to engine mounts and the gearbox??
I would like to swap it for the largest FIRE engine that'll fit straight in and onto the 4x4 box. (guessing its my Seic engine)

Cheers guys

Yes it will bolt up to the Panda box, use the Panda engine mount.

Not even close:) The 1.1 engine was fitted to latter LHD pandas. The 1242 8v and 16v will fit as will the 1400 16v and in theory the 130bhp/150bhp starjet turbos.

Punto's....

Your 88 4x4 will have a webber 32TLF carb. If you were going to put in your sie engine in it's spi as well, but you could use the 4x4 carb adjusted or re-jetted you can't with the 1242.

Basically the easiest job will be to use your sie engine and just change the mounts and possibly the manifold. The engine only takes a couple of hours to remove.

Why is it you cant use a carb on a 1242?

Has an 1108 engine ever run on a carb? If so the 1242 and 1108 cylinder head are the same (though haven't compared the size of the ports), the only difference in the two blocks is the stroke and a slight increase in diameter.

I rebuilt a Cinq head on Saturday, putting it together looked like a distributor might have gone on the end of the 1108 if it ever run on a carb ... though that is just on what I was looking at at the time, quite likely to be wrong

Is it not then a real pain to change the fueling AND ignition systems?

ECU/Dizzi etc...

The panda engine would have a rotary distributor surely, and my Seic block would not have a place for one would it :-?

Oooo, the brain pain. lol :bang:

You can use a carb on a 1242, the problem is the Panda 999cc carb will just about cope with the 1108 engine but realy needs new jets etc to cope with the 1242.

Yes, you can pop a dizzy onto the 1108 engine by removing the coil-pack mount on the end of the block. What you will be missing is the mechanical fuel pump so you will need to add a electric pump.

Wouldn't put the 4x4 carb on the 1242 but would on the 1108, you can run virtually any engine on a carb but there is a lot of messing about, second problem will be having to run an electric fuel pump as you can't fit the mechanical pump to the sei engine unless you fit the 4x4 head to the engine.

Guys... Legends!
Cheers, all understood.
Just a final check, the manifolds are a straight bolt onto the 1108 head, or do I use the 1108 inlet and bolt the 4x4 carb onto that?
Also I keep the 1108 clutch and housing?

Nick

Manifolds should be the same, although a while back Cinq members were asking Panda members if they had any manifolds as they were better than the cinq's even though the fittings were the same?

Only 90% sure on the clutch it is the same, panda-sport will know better.

'Just about cope' means that you'll get less performance than if you never started the whole bloody lot in the first place. I've an 1108cc engine in a 1991 panda and as we where morons when we attempted it it took ages to get anywhere near a performance increase from the whole thing. Actually it took ages for us to get the thing to work properly let alone 'go faster'

Get the carb re-jetted and the whole lot set up on a rolling road if you want it to really make it worth your while

Jim

You can keep the 1108 clutch (y) Any FIRE engine bolts up to any FIRE gearbox:yum:

The Panda 4x4 carb (50hp) has different jets to the 4x2 carb (45hp) so it will be better suited than the one Jim started with, but he is right, to get the best out of it you need to get it set up by a pro.

ah, but I'd juppy 4x4 carb on at the end and it was no better I'm afraid...

Just a comment. That was a bloody amazing thread! You guys really know your stuff here. Think I'll stick with the worlds most unreliable Multipla and just read you guys, awe struck, from afar......

Hi,
I also want to swap my engine on my 4x4 panda 1990. I have the opportunity to buy a 1400 cc turbo from uno. I would like to know if this could be a direct swapping, I mean, if the engine would directly bolt on the gearbox??? In theory, I've read that every fire engine bolt on every gearbox which was previously fitted (from factory) with a FIRE engine.
Can somebody help me ??? Because i don't find on the net if it's a fire motor...
Thanks a lot

No, neither the 1300 or 1400 Uno turbo engines are fire units. It also won't fit without major mods to the inner wings etc. Its only a mod for the expert...
