Hey! This is a Punto 85sx 1.2 16v that I just got from a scrap yard off ebay.

I bought a welder before xmas with the view to having a go a restoring an old car. I kinda underestimated how much work this would need.
Here's some pics:
This was the ebay pic.

This was forcing the front panel out of alignment, so I tied a motocross tied down to the back of my Dad's car and got him to drive off a coupld of times! It kinda worked but the creased bits at the end definitely didn't wanna come out!

Legs look straight, I'll be able to tell better if this cross member fits snug, if it's loose at one end the a leg might be out! That'll be re-think time!

HaHa! I wouldn't let the engine go. That's why I took a chance on it. I thought if the cars too bad the engine will be goin in a sei or cinq!

i take it the car is an insurance write off, what category is the car, C or D?
did you get the V5 or the old MOT with it?
to replace the crossmember you'd be better off hiring a spot welder as they do the job really fast, HSS do them. i just hired one last saturday, cost me £53 for the day and i replaced an inner wing in about 20 minutes with it. so much better than faffing around with my mig.
you will really need to get the car a new MOT after you've fixed it and if the car is a category C write off you will need to MOT it then take it to VOSA for a VIC check (£36)
you cannot apply for a new V5 or tax a cat C car until it has passed the VIC check.
i've just rebuilt the front on a cat C pug 406, finished putting it back together on sunday, MOT'd it wednesday and got it VIC checked this morning followed by a trip to the local DVLA office to tax it and apply for the log book.
i got lucky and bought a pair of 406's for £220, one had a rear prang so i managed to get every front part i needed, all original parts.
even better was this afternoon when i weighed in the parts car and got £110 from the scrappy.

Bloody 'ell! You did well there with the prices on the 406's!
It's a Cat C so I'll book it in for the VIC next week.
I thought you did VIC then MOT. Did you get the MOT first?
I've got a good scrappy near me and was gonna cut the front crossmember off one of his cars but a new one is only £20 and there's bloody spot welds everywhere! It took me ages to get off!
I'm gonna stick with the MIG for this job.
1. Budget. £53 is £53 that I can spend somewhere else.
2. I wanna practice with the welder. I'm gonna cut the old c'member up tomorrow and practice plug welding for when the new one arrives on Monday.
