My wife has just purchased, for my birthday, a private plate for my 500 which contains 500 in it along with my initials.

Obviously I am very happy with this and I will be putting it on my car as soon as possible, but what I would like to know is this:

Do you think a private plate is a bit of fun or a vanity or a bit of both?

Needless to say it will not change my mind to use this plate but it would be interesting to know how others view private plates.

for me it depends what the plate says. yours is fun, its your car and your initials, its when people shout about what they got, theres a guy by me who's got one plate with v12 on it, and another that says boss... thats just vanity to me.

I've had mine for years it spells my surname I dunno if I'd consider it "fun" ?

It maybe vanity to some degree but I'd rather that than gluing things that say ripspeed all over my car, these days more and more people are buying personalised plates for their cars and I can see not reason no to? Is it any more vanity, or any less fun than any other modification?

Depends on what it is and says....if you spell it what it's meant to mean underneath then that's just not cool...like explaining a joke twice after no one laughed the 1st time. On that note back in the day I wanted OM 03 NOM but sense prevailed.

Did once see something like K69 on a micra, that must have been worth several times the value of the car it was on!

Fun mainly IMO. Looks nasty and tacky when they have to be mispaced though IMO.

Not Always:D I think my minor mis space is OK (and my Initals are VH)

I've always considered plates that incorporate the model of car to be a bit odd. For example, plates on a Fiat 500 which contain "500", or plates on an M3 that contain "M3".

I already know what model the car is, because it generally says it on the back of the car - really close to the number plate in fact. Just seems like a bit of a waste of time and money to me.

BUT, it is of course, down to the owner of the car. If they like it and prefer to have the peronalised plate, then it's completely their call. Doesn't affect me at all, and I'm not going to judge them as being vain or anything else, but I just don't think I'd ever bother doing it.

i just feel sorry for the bloke in 2008 who brought a car with this

KN08 BOX

Easy to check just type the reg into eurocarparts or gsf website. It doesn't exist, also when you buy a new car you get to pick from a list of dealer issued plates so you know the reg long before you get the car

KN08 series were withheld ;)

I think they also withheld KN03 and KN06

I've seen CL10 CUP on a Clio cup. I thought that was great!

Indeed you have it was on an episode of top gear on a car driven by James may in Italy

An interesting one I have local to me is a big S class merc with the reg "360" that's it three numbers no letters can anyone explane how this is allowed in the uk it seems to otherwise be a uk car

Oh and I did see another S class a year or two ago at McArthur glen outlet in York with the reg "BBC1" which must have been pretty valuable

I love my Punto; but there are days when I really miss the Isuzu (usually when there's snow on the road; or I'm being tailgated by a Range Rover...).

I used to have a range rover classic with an Isuzu 3.1TD engine I believe from a big horn/Monterey.... Best of both worlds (y) bought it for a quid when I used to work in the trade :D
