people driving slower on the motorways? I popped over to my mums house hoping some mail would have arrived there by now but as I'm flat broke instead of flying at 80mph+ I pootled at 60mph in the slow lane to save petrol.

I noticed alot of people going at the same speed and not many going much faster and not due to heavy traffic as apart from the idiots with poor lane discipline the outside lane was empty and the middle lane was being used for the occassional overtaking.

I arrived at my mums house very calm and content instead of when i go faster i end up pissed off with more peoplefor being in my way and apart from two 0.5 series BMW's (mini's) and one 3 series nobody really fooked me off.

Anyone else noticed a drop in motorway speeds?

Yes. I noticed that when driving down the M4 to the Motor Show.
I thought maybe it was Saturday drivers, paying for their own fuel. I'm guessing that the weekday reps probably haven't slowed down.

I also decided to make a list of the broken down cars I spotted at the side of the M4:
3 x Peugeot, 1 x Renault, 1 x Toyota, 1 x Mazda, 1 x Ford, 0 x Fiat
(plus 1 x Ford and 1 x Vauxhall with blow outs, but those don't really count).

(Take's life in his hands, by trying to hijack Lolita's thread )

:nerner:

I'm just glad no one has said this is a repost/old news:eek:

see last night I drove into manchester on the M56 at 4pm ish so wasn't expecting much traffic anyway but drove out (the same route) at 5.30 and there was much more traffic but still didnt notice anyone doing over 80mph when there's normally a few.

Yes, I noticed that too and bikers on big mean machines tootling along NOT

I wonder when the Chancellor will catch up with the Company drivers who have fuel cards as part of their wages? These folks are now far better off since the fuel prices shot up and can "afford" to fly around the place in their Repmobiles.

I know I've slowed down a bit since about 6 or 7 years ago, used to wizz round at top speed everywhere. Now I leave 5 or 10 minutes earlier and take it easy, nice and relaxed, feel soooo much better because of less road rage / stress. The other big plus is when you go to the pumps. High fuel prices might actualy have a positive effect on people, because they're not doing 100 mph they're less stressed and nicer to other motorists.

Tell me about it in my brava I was quick as hell but now the stilo knows nothing but just gentle tottling along. I was on the m6 last night going back home coming to junction 14. Police pulled up behind me and kept going with me at about 55mph and then got fed up and just moved along after 5miles. But when I got home I felt so relaxed and ofcourse I had my stereo to keep me company.

How do you know that these people wern't bombing along and simply run out of fuel rather than a problem with the car  :p

I sit in the slow lane maost days to work to save fuel. The difference it makes on your monthly fuel bill is phenominal.

i saw that my fella was getting 45mpg in the jag recently... way more than im getting in the sei at a guess :bang:

A diesel Jag of course.... or Pics or its not true! :p

I think a lot of people have been caught by cameras and have noticed insurance goes through the roof, and therefore are generally slowing down.

I've noticed that if I drive slower and more relaxed it makes for a more pleasant journey.

Although I am the king of loosing patience with muppet drivers

Now that sounds more likely.... 45 mpg...?
WTF do we bother with small cars for Lolz? :p

Or maybe he has a light and gentle touch... ?

really 45mpg... it impressive, he just puts cruise control on and sits in the slow lane of the motorway (think thats the secret - that he does very little town/city driving).

even cruising at 60mph in the Sei she still seemed to drink petrol:bang:

I used to compete against my cruise control on the Mitsi for economy and my right foot won, mainly where I had to go downhill then up again immediately after, the CC wasnt smart enough to take the free momentum from the downhill and use it on the uphill, it just piled on the accelerator going uphill maintaining the constant speed I had dialled in.

I miss cruise control... bril on M/ways, nod off & take a nap (kiddin) :D
