Achieved a real difference at work on Thursday. Language is the tip of the iceberg with some of the people I work with so instead of "****" (insert the grown up word and not so forum friendly word for poo there) I managed to get them all to say "Arbuckles" by the end of the day it really caught on.

"Why Arbuckles?"

"Have you ever eaten there?"

"Fair enough".

Love the "typo" :D

My rugby club has a gritty sand all weather training area at the end of the car park. Every other week there's a 4x4 stuck in it and not just gormless SUVs. Land Rover Discos, Range Rovers and of course the ubiquitous Aldi Q whatever.

The Audi Q's are bad enough pretend SUV's (don't get me started on the Nissan CrashQai) but PPC Magazine once described the Peugeot RCZ as the Aldi TT so I applied the same premise here.

At least Peugeot was able to match (maybe exceed) Audi's off-roading capability...

"Those precision cut, oversized alloys down to 100 microns more detail than any other manufacturer in the world" ... or some marketing bs like that! lol

The gaping mouth rad grilles on Pugs are enough to put me off the brand. "fortunately" I rarely see the fronts of these cars as I'm usually stuck behind them in a slow moving queue with progress further impeded by the dopes who drive the things.

Now there's a debate. Which is uglier, the current 'gaping mouth' or the previous 'beaky nose'? Should we start a poll?

My 1st car was a 796cc Daewoo Matiz. The 0-60 time was 17 seconds, and up to around 35-40mph, it was genuinely nippy. I remember its eagerness taking my Dad by surprise the 1st time he drove it.
My second car, a 769cc Panda made an impressive 34hp and I believe the quoted 0-60 was 21 seconds. It always felt like it was quicker than that but not by much.

I loved my Panda 750, 45k miles in two years, always smiling. It was brisk enough up to 40, adequate to 50, but very leisurely after that. So around town it was fine, longer journeys on faster roads just needed planning to maintain momentum.

Some silly thoughts from a recent journey.

An american-based motorhome, a bit grubby, bearing the makers legend "Homeward Bound". I thought the purpose of such a vehicle was the opposite.

A sign, I pass often and always makes me smile. "Course fishing". I assume the fish follow a designated route, and if you miss them this time, they'll be around again later.

An event near Cirencester, "Fresh Air Sculpture Show".
Reality is probably that it is all outdoors, but my immediate thoughts were perhaps the scupltures were made of fresh air, so the show consisted of many plaques, bearing descriptions, and the viewer was left to imagine the exhibit. "Emperor's new clothes" anyone?

Just remembered another.
A big sign outside a hardware store. "Paint clearance sale".
Sandpaper, scrapers and paint stripper on offer perhaps?

No no, this one's really obvious. You can only participate if you have a comprehensive, inventive and inexhaustible vocabulary of swear words!

I got my 1976 Suzuki GT750 "Kettle" running for the first time in at least 10 years. It's needed a fair bit of work including new front wheel rebuilt front forks and brakes, tinware zinc plated and painted, new seat, wiring repairs, new ignition system (with bespoke turned mounting plate), new coils (with new mountings) and fully refurbed carburettors. It's only original once so the OEM kit is untouched.

Now need to get it advertised.

Back when I was at school, there was a family who were of, shall we say, medically unhealthy size, and 1 of their cars was a Panda 750 Mania. I did wonder how on earth it moved with a few of them inside it...

The admiral - My Bravo 1.6D passed 100,000 miles. Its had 1 set of discs and pads, 6 tyres currently they are all still on 6mm a new battery and a new back box in addition to servicing. The egr stuck a few times around 50K but I run Wynns diesel cleaner every 3 or 4 tanks and have not had a problem since cleaned. The back box was totally soo-tless. The heat shields on the exhaust are going to need attention soon and I am considering new dampers as a sensible maintenance option. This car has so far been outstanding and still feels very very good. Its quiet an -d economical as well as reasonably quick. It pulls a 1200kg caravan with contemptuous ease at any speed you like. On balance its quite clearly the best car I have ever owned and certainly the best value for money. Whats not to smile about!!

Also wired up LED trailer lights that DO work with can bus so no more failed bulbs and rust terminals from here on!

Colourful journey along the M4 today

RAF liveried bright red light jet..

Around 2 metres away.. as it exited an ex.WW2 SITE near Lambourn.

Got to Bristol.. typically busy.

A trasit size bright orange van passed..

Towing a trailer with an equally orange Alfa hatch track car 146??

Far more intetesting than the typical trip. :)

Had a little shopping trip for parts for the Stilo. Came back with the following:

Full Leather Interior (including doorcards front& rear)
Rear Parcel Shelf.
Boot Carpet Set.
Boot Plastic trim pieces (black parts at bottom).
Complete Engine Undertray set (Both sides & bottom).
Centre console for handbrake etc.

Total Cost = £100. :D

Yesterday picked up a perfectly good professional Sthil leaf blower that had dropped by the side of the road. The company name is etched on the side so I googled and called them. The owner came over today and insisted I took £10 for my trouble.

He was so glad it wasn't gone for ever.

Good man Dave. Recon you probably saved someone's bacon there.

I think I've mentioned before that I took an early retirement from my "proper" job when I turned 50 and went to work with a learning disability charity. I ran the grounds maintenance squad - mowing grass, hoeing borders, raking gravel paths, cutting hedges, etc, etc. All my boys (normally 6 in the squad) were registered learning disabled. Of course the job was really about developing the lads, The gardening was merely the vehicle. We never left anything big behind, like lawn mowers, blowers, strimmers, etc, but I did used to spent the occasional Saturday, in my own time, trolling around the sites (mostly church grounds and residential homes) for spades, hoes, secateurs - especially secateurs, boy are they difficult to find!

It was a really lovely way to head towards retirement. Lovely to see the lads (sadly we only ever had 2 girls join the squad) achieving, developing and enjoying themselves, and it let me "play" with the machinery (and we had some pretty serious stuff and I did all the service and repairs) as well as gardening which has always been an interest. Sadly, shortly after I retired the squad was folded up, due I think to lack of finance and them being unable to find a suitable candidate to replace me. Hope that doesn't sound too big headed?
