Hi Team,

Standard problem of the heater fan not working intermittently, fixed with a bash on the side. Have narrowed it down to the motor itself so going to grab one from a scrappy to see if that gets the Mrs going again.

My question is - what is the difference between the heater fan on an aircon and non-aircon car? 06 plate. Have seen some suggestion that they are different parts but no definitive answer.

Cheers!

James

Also, there are only 4 wires in the connector which goes to the resistor pack... definitely no burning and nothing fallen out, only 4 wires! It goes Yellow, Black/Green, Blue/Red, (space), Brown... is this normal? hehe!

Cheers! Already got the motor out and did try to get access to the slip rings but couldn't get any further in to it... scrappy only wants a tenner so might as well grab it!

Will have another go at dismantling...

Any thoughts about the weird plug??

Thanks!

Great news on the parts! Some part websites claim there's a difference. Like this one

We've had it since it was a year old or so... as far as I know no work has ever been done on the HVAC. I get the feeling that it was a very early car though...

And, got the end cap off. Absolutely FULL of black dust (I assume that used to be the brushes). The brushes are right down to brass, no carbon on them at all... can't be any good to go back into the car?

Thanks!

My car HAS air con, so does that change your view? :)

Right-o, I'm confused too! Will go for a play at the scrappy tomorrow and see what I can find! Thanks for all your help...

no worries...

Im just pondering if the motor on both is the same and its just the plastic bits are different :chin:

suppose scrap yard hunting you will be able to tell if they let you onto the site and you dont have to sit in a portakabin due to the health and safety rules

and if you would be able to bastardise some 12vdc brushes to fit the old motor

eg http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Heater-Bl...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1c25df1e40

but will obviously need a quick measure before ordering but then you should have a decent life expectancy

least a scrap fan will tide you over but im sure your aware it might not last long if its had a lot of use :tempt:

Right - for future reference

Couldn't find any local breakers with a Grande Punto (weird)

So took the blower fan out again and thoroughly cleaned and lubricated the motor... brushes were right down to the brass.

Turns out it doesn't *NEED* the little carbon brushes all that much! Was in Jan that I did this job and it's still going strong... not sure how long it will last but can't complain for now!

Yes Jim - thanks for reminding me... found a Corsa C too but someone had already had the bloody blower fan, argh!

Good spot there Andy, will pick those up for the next time it goes wrong!!

I have been having problems with the blower fan on my 56 Dynamic with basic aircon - working intermitently / poor airflow affecting all settings. No obvious overheating at resistor terminals. Taken blower motor out and cleaned it up (not that is was that bad considering it has done 60,000 miles). It now appears to be working OK, but I suspect I may need to replace it in the near future.

Which brings me to this thread - what is the diffence between a blower for an air con and non air con model - except that later is about half the price of the former. In

https://www.fiatforum.com/grande-punto/255201-internal-heater-blower.html

Johnlummis says:

"There are at least two different kinds of motor, one with heater panel in it and two plugs one without and one plug ,if you have aircon it has heater panel, cost about £115,takes 15 mins to fit yourself,3 screws ,a couple of plugs.it 's just behind your glove box,you may need a torch to locate screws but it's easy enough to do."

I have basic manual aircon - but my blower motor only has one plug...

When blower motors are said to be for air con models, do they really mean climate control models rather than basic air con?

Has anyone on this forum purchased a new blower motor for a basic air con GP.

How opportune - my fan has just shat itself again!

When I get a moment I'll call Fiat Derby and get a price on a new fan, that should help. My car has aircon and definitely has only one plug...

Hi, I'm having issues with my heater, too. It seemed to die on Thursday, just at the time of year when I could really do without this problem.

However, on Saturday it started working again briefly for a brief time so I'm wondering if it's just a loose connection somewhere.

It's a 2008 model which I bought it from a dealership almost 2 months ago, and with a 3-month RAC warranty, although thanks to this site I now know that they're responsible for 6 months of repairs.

However, while I've located a local RAC-approved garage, I'm wondering if this is a simple fix which I can do. Bear in mind that my knowledge of how cars work could fit on the back of a postage stamp with room to spare, so I hope that the connection isn't stuck right under the engine.

Thanks in advance.
