Post a picture of your engine.

Don't worry about ecu programming date, it may have had a software update at a dealer after it was first registered.

thanks Jackwhoo

from looking on the forum it does seem to be either the EGR valve or the crank position sensor.

due to the lockdown/crona virus etc it has only done around 2800 miles since last MOT in 2019.

it sailed through the last MOT in June so the emissions must have been ok.

however it is only used at the weekend for family days out and for a trip to asdas.

maybe this is what is casuing the EGR to get clogged up ?

i have had the car for 4 years and the previous owner said he put a new EGR valve on it before he sold it.

i have only down 10,000 miles since i brought it.

im tempted to take it to the local Fiat dealer and see if they can help.
i used t be the parts manager there some 13 years ago but they have changed hands since then so im not sure if i will stil know anyone.

Rule it out by unplugging the electrical connector when engine running normally.
If fault doesn't return then at least you know eve valve is at fault.
I don't know why it would be a problem with such low miles but try and rule it out.
There are very cheap egr valves for sale, possibly previous owner used a very cheap valve of poor quality , no one currently knows.

My experience of faulty/failing crank sensors is that they cause hard to start or no start when engine hot or no start at all .

If you are able to measure the resistance of the crank sensor do so.

will this bring the EML light on ?

is it ok to drive the car with it disconnected ?

It probably will cause mil/eml.

Yes it is fine to run with egr electrical connector unplugged in order to see if fault goes away with egr valve disconnected.

This is exactly how I diagnosed a 2002 1.9 jtd 8v with same symptoms as your vehicle.

i have decided to bite the bullet and buy a new EGR valve.

the prices range from 35 quid to 250 quid !

does anybody have the latest Fiat part number please as the online EPER on this forum doesnt list an EGR valve for a 120bhp 1.9 multijet ?

i dont want to buy the cheapest one as i think i might be replacing it ever few years but i cannot afford £250 quid on one either.

any help much appreciated.

Why not test it first by unplugging connector before spending your money?

Post some pictures of your age valve, they are different options and you appeared unsure which engine you have.

Jack

Nissens 98185 should be correct for your doblo, you can try cross referencing that number to find oen or different brands/prices.

thankyou very much Jackwhoo

i have found that one on onlinecarparts.co.,uk for £76.60 inc vat and shipping.
im happy to pay that.

fiat are refusing to give me the part number, what a surprise that is !

i have referenced it to fiat part numbers 4785766, 55204235 and 55182482.

i attached pictures of my engine details and the EGR valve.

many thanks for the help and the information.

You managed to get anything ..??

Where are you based?

Charlie.. near the M4

hi Charlie

im waiting for the new EGR valve to come in the post but in the mean time i thought i would have a go at trying to reset the service indicator.

i have got a modified ELM327 module from ebay (pictures attached) and the yellow lead
but when i try to connect to the ecu it comes up with ELM327 ECU error message.

i may even have the lead connected the wrong way as the socket in the car is a different shape to the plug.

i get a red light on the ELM thing when i connect it up to the car and a laptop with the ignition on and when it trys to connect all the lights flash in seqence on it.
i would be glad of any assistance.

My Bravo used to mess about due to EGR valve. Fiat dealer quoted £90 for the EGR. The gasket is a funny metal plate with sprayed rubber it looks like and cost £40 its currently on ebay for £14 freepost as I never used it.

I followed the advice to use wynns diesle clean on every 2nd or 3rd fill up and never had another issue in 60,000 miles.

In the OBD port..

The wider part of your plug goes over the UPPER part of the socket

If you are using MES

Do the 'find all devices' with ELM327 Only plugged in.. no adaptors

i replaced the EGR thing today and if any body wants advice on doing it on a 57 plate doblo multijet then the answer is DONT !

after 2 1/2 hours and hands and arms that look like they have gone 10 rounds with a sabre toothed tiger i suggest getting a tame fiat mechanic to do it.

next time i do it i am going to take the engine out !!!

i took it for a test drive and it still has the hesitation on light throttle between 1750 and 2000 rpm but i will only find out if i have cured the toher problems till they do not occur again !

i still cannot get the MES to connect to the service ECU with or without the yellow lead adaptor !

when i do a scan it doesnt come up with anything !
and when i try to connect it just has the following message
connection failed
elm327 to ecu connection failed
can bus error. check interface is propelly connected to the vehicle and the correct vehicle module selected.

i can use the MES to erase error codes but i cannot reset the service indicator.

it still thinks i have a 16v model ?

any help please.

2.5 hours.. thats the whole assembly .. the flexible stainless tube and the cooler

List is @£650 for the new assembly..

mine still leaks gasses..after draining coolant and fitting another :(

Thankfully the electrical part is 3 screws and takes 5 minutes

i had to disconnect the tube from the exhaust and undo the clamp as i couldnt get to the 2 screws under the egr valve.

took me ages to do the clamp back up at the bottom of the tube and there was a really thin gasket there aswell that i didnt know about till i saw it on top of the gearbox and wondered where it came from.

Fiat wanted around £400 quid for a repalcement EGR valve so god knows how much they would have charged me to replace it.

i think that maybe the hesitation between 1750-2000 rpm may have something to do with the DPF.

when i brought the car the previous owner said that the DPF had been removed and the software/ecu had been modified to take this into account so there wasnt and EML light.

maybe this is what is causing the hesitation and is a by product of the ecu software ?
