Hi,

What would be the right place for jacking up the whole front of the car with a trolley jack?

OK, but in the Owner's manual it is mentioned that a trolley jack can be used to lift the front, but the drawing does not clearly show where to place the jack.

The manual tells us to jack up under the transaxle, so I would put the arm right under the gearbox, where driveshafts exit the differential case. Make sure you use some rubber padding.

Jacking up under the transaxle (read midway underneath engine and gearbox) can be done in an emergency but what you are doing is lifting the car's chassis weight through the engine and gearbox flexible mountings that were only originally designed to carry the engine and gearbox weights/stresses AND NOT the vehicle chassis. You are also placing those stresses on the engine to gearbox bell housing interfaces which were again only designed to self support and not carry lifted chassis weight.

There is a support arm near jacking point, that transmits the weight to the crossrail, and further on to the body and chassis of the car. So you do not really make car hang on its engine.
You can also put jack under the support arm if you want.

Again the rear mount isn't designed to take the weight of the car in main purpose to to stop the engine rocking back and forward during acceleration

Thank you for the informative picture, Wapper! This must be the point the owner's manual suggests.

So looking at the picture wapper supplied

One can see that to either side of the exhaust there is space (with wood block) to place and lift with a trolley jack. Off centre but under the main subframe so the car will lift, not strain any engine/gearbox mounts but will tilt a little.

This is where I would jack given the requirement for a single jack full front end lift.

Back end no problem, front end, too much weight too lift on old engine /suspension mounts etc. Why not use 2 Jack's or ramps?
