Hi all
This morning I started my 2014 fiat 5oo pop and on the dash came up start stop unavailable check engine. The car drives as normal including breaking. I was hoping for help with 2 things firstly, is it safe for me to drive my car?
Secondly how can i fix it without it costing me an arm and a leg?
Many thanks for any help.

Welcome to the forum :)

Perfectly safe to keep driving, but indicates either an issue with the battery (certainly possible in a 5 year old car with it's original battery) or, less likely, and issue with the alternator.

I'd look at buying a new battery anyway, unless you know it's been replaced recently, and then see where to go from there.

It may just be that your battery is ok, but just needs charging. This is the zero cost option. If it's not holding a charge, then follow the advice above.

I’ve had this numerous times when I get a salvage car that has been standing a while. A good bench charge of the battery on a trickle charge overnight normally sorts it although I have had a few that haven’t sorted it, bought a new battery and then it’s gone.
