Technical Start'n'Stop - not....

Me? I am not saying it's flawed, but looks like there are plenty who think it is

as a keen poster in this thread, now a 'fix' has been made, i am a keen advocate...it works- and it works well....

we had better get used to these systems, they are about to be everywhere...

the next stage being worked on-
an engine cut off system when youre not using any fuel/power, even on the move, this by ford, still 2 years away...

maxi your fuel economy is astonishing....id better lay of the throttle a bit...

As long as you can turn it off, I don't mind.

Good news everyone!!! I have solved the warning light and assosiated problems with my 6 week old 500c. I've got rid of the heap of junk, took a 2 grand hit by the dealer but at least I don't have to worry about Fiat's promise.... Fix It Again Tomorrow.. Happy motoring.

Maybe RobW but I don't have the problem anymore some other poor soul who will end up with the car will , and my heart goes out to them.

And it was really worth losing £2k in six weeks?? I can see it must have been frustrating but I'm sure you'd have got it sorted. Personally I wouldn't want to lose that much money just because the car had teething problems, but the important thing is you're happy with the outcome I guess.

I feel lucky as (touch wood) everything seems to work perfectly in my new car - but even if I had problems, I'm so happy with it overall that I reckon I'd persevere.

Good luck with whatever you get next!

Considering I'm hoping to lose much <2k (with scrappage taken into account) on a 12 month old 500 with 12k on the clock (which is what i project mine will have when I get rid).

You do know that the dealer will probably fix it (probably using the warranty from fiat) and flog it on at near (if not more than) list price don't you?

Well RobW when your wife is driving down the M40 doing 70 in the middle lane and the stop/start and engine management lights come on and car goes into limp mode with susequent power and speed loss it's a terrifying experience and worth 2 grand so her life is no longer in danger Would rather have 10 of your " face plants " than a dead wife.

:confused:terrifying experience, hmm really??...
just indicate and pull over to the hard shoulder - simples (y) just the same as if you ran out of fuel.

good luck in finding a car that never has a loss of power problem or runs out of fuel

there will always be an extreme example of an issue somewhere-

the poster here that has got rid of the offending 500c obviously felt a complete loss of confidence in the car.

BUT....'limp home' mode must surely be built into the car not to be dangerous.....unnerving, annoying and off putting maybe.

to frazer- were the s/s warning lights and the loss of power linked?

as s/s turns engine off, but only when stationary?!

what was diagnosed?- its the first time ive seen that old 'fiat' saying used here...did the company get time to sort it or did you immediatley dispose?

Cars are intrinsically dangerous and no system is ever perfect.

An ordinary car without stop start can have a sudden loss of power.

I have experienced it myself on a motorway and it's alarming but not like the brakes have been slammed on, the car just starts slowing down (albeit fairly suddenly) and I'm by no means an expert driver but I had plenty of time to get over to the hard shoulder.

I don't mean to trivialise the issue, and it's not what you'd expect on a brand new car, but I'm sure this is not a common problem to the stop and start system. In fact from the sound of it it's possibly nothing to do with the stop and start system at all.

Ditto. I had an Audi 80 that stopped a couple of times on me. Did I scrap it?

HELL YES!
