General 2010 reg model with start-stop

i have the stop start model- one of the first back in june- while initially a little problematic mine is fine now...bosch make the system who also makes BMWs, amongst others...
there was a very long thread about its issues, but this hasnt been posted in for weeks and weeks, and a fix has been applied to some affected on there..inc mine

its set to become so widespread that it will be as common as windscreen wipers very soon!

dont let it worry you, i like the system, using it becomes habitual, and then it feels weird driving car without it!

as for how useful it is...well where fuel economy is concerned...every little helps...

Can anyone tell me if start-stop is worth it? I'm trying to decide whether to buy a 2010 reg or a pre reg 09 without start-stop but don't know how beneficial / problematic it is!

thanks in advance :)

Personally, this is the feature I am least happy with and has caused the most problems. I now wish I had gone for the HID headlamps or Interscope Hi-Fi instead as an option.

It seems if you hold the car at biting point for any length of time (perhaps if for one reason or another, you are expecting to be moving imminently), the engine management light comes on and the start stop is disabled. This fault then goes away after a couple of days of driving. I suspect this is just a quirk of my car, that I need the dealer to look at again, but it should give you an idea of how problematic it could be.

In addition, I've often found that by the time I've come to a complete stop, engaged neutral and let my foot off the clutch, killing the engine, it's time to move off once more. It becomes more of an annoyance than anything. Perhaps this is down to me anticipating traffic flow to keep moving instead of simply stop-starting repeatedly. Therefore it doesn't really suit my driving style.

There is a button to turn it off, but it turns itself back on every time you turn the ignition on.

That said, you may love it...

two very different opinions in a row!...for and against!

im not sure you are going to be able to 'deselect' it tho!...

There is already a fix for this, as discussed in the Stop/Start thread-
