Yeah I know, but I'm trying to see how far I can get before the car cuts out due to lack of fuel. :D
That'll surely give me the exact MPG ;)

I'll have the spare can in the boot in case I'm far from home.
 
The fuel pump can't empty the tank ;) Seem to recall there being about a litre that the pump cant get.

Brim fill will tell you how much you have used since your last brim fill :D

I used to get about 10 miles per litter from my 999cc Uno which is around 45 MPG

Emma's Seicento Sporting gets about 35MPG that's with the 1242cc 8V Turbo'd engine :p

I wonder what the FPT 1.3 Multijet would return in an Uno :chin:

No, but when you next fill up, note how much fuel you've put in and how far you've got since the last fill - presuming you last filled to the brim you will be able to work out your MPG more accurately.

thers nothing wrong with the way youre estimating, and you'll be able to see how far out the estimate was when you brim fill :)

The accurate method of measuring fuel consumption is to fill your tank to the brim, reset the trip counter, drive as much as you can before running out, then fill up to the brim again noting how many litres it takes. This will establish how much fuel you used to travel the mileage recorded on your trip meter. Then you divide the number of miles traveled by the number of litres used, which will give your average miles per litre. If you want, you can convert your litres into gallons to give mpg.

Simple formula: number of miles covered divided by number of litres/ gallons used = mpl/ mpg

No, I am saying that brim to brim is the most accurate way for you to measure your mpg, using the marks on the gauge is like measuring distance using knicker elastic :D

At the end of the day you will have used X amount of Litres to do Y amount of miles, what you then need to do is work out the ratio.

I will go brim to brim... just after I fill up after successfully doing the entire week on one tank. You were asking me for figures, so I gave them to you at that time, without me having to fill up the car and ruin the entire weeks target!

Here are today's pictures, I had to do slightly different milage today as I went to a fire marshal training course for work in the morning (not much of a detour, but one all the same) as well as dropping a colleague one junction further up the motorway from my junction.

Mine looks interesting tomorrow

If I get to work without the light coming on I will go for the run home (traffic permitting). To work should get me to 400 mile out of a tank, to home should be around 450 :D :D

However friday evenings can be entertaining on the M25 :bang:

I'll let you know how it goes, the best so far is 443 miles

Exactly! do it Just for us old guys!
Brim to brim,
Fill to the brim, press the trip meter to 0.
Next time, when you fill to brim, write down the trip meter figure,
0 it again and drive off.

When you get time work out the mpg. A very accurate method if you always fill to the brim.

However:
Very important to once you work out how many km/miles you get to a tank full.
When you check your trip meter you know how much further you can go before she coughs and splutters.

Will be dropping the car off at the garage to have the steering wheel realigned, so will fill up and record the volume then. Will let you know how it goes!

It only lit up on the last mile anyway so I know there are a few miles left in the tank and fuel lines ;)
Also, that picture was taken after the car had been stationary, when I was driving the needle was a bit higher.

I've got a spare full tank of fuel for emergencies anyway!

I used to get about another 30 miles from my tank once the low fuel light came on/ started flickering ;)

I also once managed 400 miles from a full tank in my mk1 45S! Pretty sure it was running on fuel vapour at that point... :eek:

Louie - I'll keep going until the engine cuts out! ;)

Should I be worried about sucking crud into the fuel lines/ engine if I let the fuel level get low enough?

Remember that this was almost all motorway miles at speeds of approx. 60mph. Quite tedious to try and keep the econometer in the green sector for that long though!

That's what your fuel filter(s) are there for ;)
