You can't really compare the two then...

One is the result of being born into a family with mentally ill parents and nobody benefits from this

The other puts affordable food on the table for thousands of hard up families in the UK

Unfortunatly for the chickens they are lower down the food chain than us...

I think the point was that the child would have known no other way of life as people are saying the chickens know no other way of life

Doesn't make either situation right regardless of the food chain

My point was, why is it ok for one species to cause that kind of suffering, when in another its condemed.

Its called natures food chain! Human beings being at the top of it while chickens are a considerable way down the list!
If there wasnt a demand for such things then things such as battery farms wouldnt exist!
How many of us wear sports clothing etc made from slave labour etc?
I applaude you Dobby for your idea, i just feel that the thread has took the wrong turn!

No i don;t think it has tbh

Its interesting to know other peoples point of views and i respect them, i wouldn't try to change their minds, only point out why i don't agree with what they say

At the end of the day it wouldn't be much of a world if we could force people into changing their minds. It would be rather boring imo :p

True, but there was no point to her suffering, however there is a point to the "suffering" of these chickens, which i have pointed out.

And I'm sure if chickens ate humans they would have no thought for our rights or welfare either...

lol got the funniest image of chickens eating humans now :D

But then there is also no point to the chickens suffering. Free Range FTW

But you'd make sure you enjoyed it more wouldn't you? :p

You try and run a completely ethical chicken farm.
You realise that to make a profit or at least break even you need to charge the supermarkets £10 a chicken
The supermarkets tell you to foxtrot oscar because they can get chickens for a quid
You go bust

The end

Then how do other Organic and free range suppliers stay afloat without going bust?

I'm not trying to prove anyones wrong here, this subject really is quite new to me and i only know what i've read and watched so i really am interested in the way it all works cause there's obviously a lot i would still need to learn and until i do i can only argue the point as i see it :)

Because they charge a ****load to rich people who can afford it

But these organic companies haven't replaced the mass produced stuff, just run alongside it. Because most people can't afford to buy organic food

yeah that is true and i can see your point, but perhaps even little changes such as buying free range eggs, they don't break the bank, i'm always on a food budget like most but i always buy free range eggs. The only exception is if my husband has been to the shops and he just buys the cheapest :p ( i must add that i don't eat them when he buys them)

Baldness and Alopecia (sp?) there is a difference!

right. (i wish id never started to argue lol)

the chicken farmers sell their chickens when they get to the end of their laying season.
coincidently, this means that they have started to moult when they are exposed to the big bad world, so everyone sees them in their worst condition possible.

ok, raise all the points against me, but il try not to argue back anymore!

as i said before i'm truly not trying to argue. This is a learning process for me as i know there are people out there who know more than i do (obvious lol)

Not entirely bothered if im honest, weve all campaigned for years about things like this and it still occurs, one tiny thread in comparison to years of protests etc isnt going to change things and probably wont, we have a voice yes, but its unlikely it will get heard, at the end of the day the majority of us participating on this thread, have probably eaten chicken/meat since this programme and not given a second glance where it came from or how it was killed, or the conditions it lived in.
