It's because the Government want you to waste your fuel!

Un-f****** believable!

Local councils can adopt "green wave" systems of sensors, where vehicles at or just below the speed limit trigger a succession of green lights.
Environmental and motoring groups say carbon emissions will be reduced.
Previously the Department for Transport (DfT) had discouraged the systems which reduce fuel use, resulting in less tax being paid to the Treasury.
But now, rather than seeing green wave systems as a "cost" to the public purse, the DfT views them as a "benefit".

i know many of my regular route set of traffic lights

30mph here if at front of traffic and such

except when thick assed pedestrians get involved

you dont need to use the button when crossing everytime you know

but most annoying is by the punch clock

can get 5 cars though and its a long change
added another junction oposite and not altered timing

I read this is the paper today.
Surprising bit of honesty as to how government view the poor sods who elect them in the first place.
Whatever next?
Our schemes to reduce alcohol consumption and smoking are deliberately crap, since we need the revenue!
MRSA deliberately encouraged to reduce the number of old people, very expensive, what with their pensions and hip replacements!

I use these stop start lights as a drag strip.

If they werent there, I wouldnt do it.

The lights are justified though, I mean clearly the human brain isnt powerful enough to find a gap in the traffic and pull into it.

Clearly we need 3 simple signals to tell us when to stop and go. Throw in a sat nav and your brain has nothing to do.

The easier they make it for us, the more stupid and braindead we become.

If you dont excerise your body, you get fat. If you dont excerise your brain, you become stupid (and a crap driver).

Gotta love todays free society!

this is a good idea, can be used to discourage speeding too, i imagine the lights can be made to go red if the approaching car is speeding, though would they then speed off to make up for it? hmmmmm. but if they knew if they stick to the limit they go through quicker it'd be great, traffic flow would be improved, speeding solved less CO2 emissions, everyone is a winner!!:slayer:

Apart from the Government who would get less money in fuel duty :chin:

Wonder why the idea wasn't thought of earlier :chin:

A week or so ago, there was a major power failure in the West of Scotland. Every traffic light went out.

There was only one junction that had a problem, and it was recently redesigned around the traffic lights.

The rest of the junctions flowed smoother than they do with the lights.

GRRRRRRR

Agree totally, there's a crossroad outside my street. Packe with traffic most of the time. Lights on too long red and too short green, when failed traffic flows like the tide. Why the police never challange the rule of the lights supposed to be on all the time is a complete mystery. Are they afraid they may lose their jobs? Maybe, though it would be a on-up for stupidity if that were to happen.

dont think i seen any green wave systems, but we have a few routes where if you speed a set of lights changes to red.

there is also a DC just from my house that if you stick to 40 you get stopped by the lights at the end, if you hold 50 you can get through the green.

the full beam trick is pretty good too (y)
