Why so much ford hate?

Why so much ford hate?

I ended up giving it away to my gardener

I have a focus.

It is 6 years old and sits outside, it isnt garaged.

There is no rust on it anywhere, wheels, rear arches etc

No leaks, smoking from exhaust etc

It has never broken down.

It has FSH and the only thing its ever needed that wasnt part of the service was a tyre

Mine is a pile of sh*te & cost me a fecking fortune...but my mk1 mondeo was like stu's & yours was good reliable car.

Ok, not giving it away as such.

By this stage, the Ford was sat on our driveway, not doing much - I had the Stilo to play with...

It needed new tyres, servicing, MOT, etc - so I bartered it to him, in exchange for some services in kind :)

spent many years at Ford so I know the 'workings' quite well. What gets me is how people moan about Fiats & customer relations etc here yet Ford was so much worse...infact thats the reason I came to Fiat and I dont regret it one bit.

My Dad has a Ford Focus 2 ghia, and has had it since march '05 it's been very good which is just as well as when it does go near a dealer the experience is awful.

one of the reasons i moved to fiat had rust on my 04 plate new KA within 12 months round the rear wiper they made such a mess of the respray and then accused me of messing it up

H Most Ka I see have rust either around the filler cap, around the wheel arches or along the doors.

never noticed any on the arches as most of it is plastic but the Filler cap is known for it so when my mum got hes a can of waxoil was emptied round it so far touch wood nothing has come of it

the rear wiper has JUST started to bleb (one project for next year and the bottom of the door shut on the rear panel (where stones hit it) have had that out with the dremal and repainted

still love the KA even the 1.3 is like a Go cart

I borrowed Ex's Ka when my fiat was dead and buried, handles great it does have rust problems yes but its not that bad and tbf look at w reg mk2 punto the majority I looked at a few years ago while shopping for what became my 85 had rot starting on leading edge of roof and bonnet.

very very common fault...my focus had rutsy doors before 3 years old & year later snapped belt & 16valves.......& people think fiat customer care was bad. Despite FSH & having it all in writing they wormed out of it all by (wait for it....) I worked at a ford garage:confused:

Never again...i'd rather work as a stud to single housewives than work for ford again!

merc are also guilty of pisspoor rust protection. upto 2001 for some cars, and 2003 for other models, they all rusted in key areas. ours was a 3yr old (y2knew) e320cdi avantgarde, was written off because of the rust

also with fiat, their brand was tarnished by peoples opinion that all fiats rusted to nothing. Fiat addressed this with a market leading galvo programme from ~1993 onwards. what have ford done? TEN years later, still no decent galvo, merc? again 10years AFTER fiat

:ROFLMAO:

quick rundown of what i experienced what i posted recently on Detailing World

I now know rust is a common problem on the tailgate but not at the time i was livid got as far as getting the paperwork to taking them to court but traded it in instead life's too short

Don't get me started on Ford body shops Ford head office are sodding useless

had a Ka (stop sniggering at the back)

my first car my pride and joy

anyhow after a year (i pointed it out when it went in for service)
there was rust bubbling up under the rear wiper grommet

so they had it in for inspection and ford authorized a "repair" i wanted a new tail gate as once rust is in the metal it usually comes back

Anyhow i agreed to the "repair" well when i picked it up it was raining and dark was given the keys and sent on my way

next day i washed it carefully and the Ford dealer had made a royal balls of it (this was pre discovery of DW and even i knew that they had made a mess when they machine polished it there was buffer trails all over the boot lid) and some muppet had tried to leaver in the rubber grommet with some sharp implement and gone back to bare metal. And tried to cover it/hide the marks with silicone grease and they hadn't even managed to get the KA badge in the right place

they then had the balls to say i'd damaged the paint and wouldn't do anything about it ford UK didn't want to know hence i no longer have a ford and the Ford garage in question based in Knottingly (near Pontifract don't get any of my family or close friends business ) my old man had had 2 brand new cars from them and one pre-reg and my car makes it four from them and they couldn't care less

I was not a happy chappy

Overated. RUSTY cars. i've seen Focus', Ka etc with more rust than my old tipo from 1992,a design from the 80's!, you would of thought they'd of tempted galvinisation sometime. The interiors are also pretty crap, a 1994 ford fiesta has the same interior as a Ford Probe V6. modern ones aren't much better.

You havent sat in one recently have you?

Boring interiors, boring drive and everyone has one need I say more?

One has to assume you haven't driven one recently.

:yeahthat:

Totally disagree with that. Nobody knows more about making a FWD car handle well than Ford.

The set the benchmark in the C and D segment with the Focus and Mondeo and so far nobody has come close to matching them. Their Control Blade rear suspension is so good that VW even copied the MkI Focus for the MkV Golf.

:yeahthat:

I've been looking at a ST 170 Focus but sssssshhhh don't tell anyone.

:nerner:.

Good man, i looked at one, but insurance would kill me.

Ford outsell Fiat for good reasons to be honest- especially with the Focus and Mondeo- The GP does look a lot better than the Fiesta (not the new one though:yum:) and the 500 looks better than the Ka- which is also due a mighty fine looking replacement.

The GP does look a lot better than the Fiesta
yeah, but the only advantage it has are looks.

the 500 looks better than the Ka.
the new ka is a 500 so both are doomed to looking unstable and out of proportion, but obviously the ford will look better (even if a blind man beats it with a mallet)

meant to say both of those things (y)

the Ka will no doubt handle a lot better than the 500 as well.

Sorry, I am a die hard Fiat fan as are my family having owned Fiats for years but i have to disagree that fords are crap which i used to think as well.

My dad started off with a focus company car whch he did 100k in and had no problems ever with it, my Gf had an r reg mondeo which did 114k and was still going even after she put it through a wall (and it was on its original clutch her dad tels me)- that car was fixed and is still being used today, the ex had a ka which was a lot more fun that any other FWD car i had driven (including my mk2b at the time)- that was like a go kart, and i have my Focus Tdci which is brilliant- I cant fault it whatsoever- such a fun car to drive.

Also when my dad lost his company car he went out and bought another focus- a '51 1.6 zetec which was faultless. He then replaced this with the Stilo which was in for recall after recall, failing this failing that, it needed a pnew steerng rack, had an apetite for tyres, skywindow would leak and jam open, he then got fed up with that and bought an 07 Focus- again no probems as yet! I also remember getting a shot of the stilo after thefocus and being disappointed. Dont get e wrong the stilo was a nice car but personally i think the focus is better- hence why i bought my own.

As for rust, not a problem with any of them except the mondeo- but that was 10 yrs old and was never looked after (it was only a scab on the back arch)

whereas my mk1 punto (s reg and only 5yo at the time) was bubbling on the roof and boot lock. The stilo (4yo) was starting to go at the bottom of the doors when we got rid of it. Not to mention the electrics going on the tipos we had the leaking seicento...

plus, as for customer service, our local ford dealer is the friendliest dealer i have ever come across. Must just be lucky i suppose.

i also think the dealers are very good, much better than my local Fiat dealers anyway.

You always know where you stand with Ford, unlike VAG or BMW

my dad got a complete brand new set of alloys when his had a sort of black rust appear on them (i know alloys dont rust btw). and they threw in some parking sensors for the aggravation it had caused him. He has bought about 10 cars from this dealer in the past though. They still call him Maveric man- he had one that was in the garage twice a week and they could enver discover the fault- so they gave him a spanking new one instead :slayer:

ii know alloys dont rust btw
yes they do. aluminium oxcide is white not orange but it is still an oxcide (rust). have you ever seen wheels with bubbles? just look at alfa teledial alloys for a prime example of rust. almost all of them have rust bubbles by 7 years old.
