Italian I trust.;)
T’was a bit early at the time but I’m currently enjoying a gorgeous Primitivo, Tesco finest no less 🤣, whilst watching the Champions league🍷
But I digress, I made a bit of progress this afternoon as my shims arrived early😎
After several attempts I got the pinion teeth central on the crownwheel. My estimation was off and it was too far out so had to keep taking a shim out at a time but hopefully worth the patience. Although I note P.Peter on a previous post mentions hypoid diffs aren’t necessarily set up centrally.
Also in other news I’ve got the lash within the Haynes range too. I’m not fooling myself that I’m there as I’ve got to do the dye thing and check the contact patch but I’m happy with this as a starting position.

I made some progress today. In the end one by one I had to put back the pinion shims as the contact pattern wasn’t into the root enough, so ended up back to my original calculation which is kind of amusing. I got the lash at 0.1mm so good as well. I haven’t done the thing with the rod and a 1 kg weight, still to do. However I was stopped in me tracks as when I tried to select gears I found I’ve got the same issue on that faithful day at Brooklands when the box locked. I’m gonna start a new thread on that, I won’t witter about it here 🙄

Nothing to do with those interlock slugs that fit in gear change rods? Not the three balls behind the plate with springs.

I know from my description it sounds like a very likely cause but I’ve done those two little kind of oval ballbearings and the pin in between a few times over the years so I’m pretty familiar with those strange parts.
Thinking I may perhaps have a bent fork I also looked at overriding the selectors by removing the 8mm bolts to manually (albeit perhaps moving things out of sync) try and find a neutral in there somewhere but I can’t no matter what I try.
