going skiing on mont blanc in march (french side) which tyres to use winter or all weather, i'll be taking snow chains. all weather would be about £100 cheaper as i'll only need to get two new ones as opposed to four

certain areas insist on a full set of winter rated tyres not just 2 think the fine in germany for non compliance is 900 euros
oh and with chains practice fitting them before you go........

only two all weather tyres needed as other two are ok (i have two sets of alloys one 17" one 15")

If the pic is of the car you're taking, good luck fitting the chains with that clearance.
Better of getting 4 winter tyres, not snow tyres in my opinion

Only driving on holiday in March for a few weeks max I'd have thought, and only a little snow here at the mo, so snow specific tyres will be pointless when not on snow.
So general winter the way to go in my opinion, but each to their own

they marked m&s? i dont see it in pics
Dunno what they're marked as (might check sisters car in the morning) but I know that they're designed for general use on and off road.

thats wot i was thinking
the nankang tyres that came with the wheels (i still got two of them) are marked m & s
would the winter tyres be ok for 800mile journey each way? as we're only planning on stopping twice, once for ferry and then once for fuel each way
will they overheat?
Use an all seasons tyre, the quatrac 3, as suggested. Will continue working to plus 20 degrees.

i looked at snow socks, but your advised to carry chains aswell because some places don't allow them

By all things i've heard all season tyres are a true jack of all trades....I.e. crap at everything so if I was going for a winter tyre i'd have a winter tyre not something thats not at home no matter what the conditions.
i drove to the french alps last year, trust me get a set of steelies and have 4 winter tyres fitted on them,
the french wont help you if you get stuck and if you cause an accident then it will be your fault for not having winter tyres fitted and you will get into trouble.

i think i'll play it safe and get winter tyres, i can't see the kids wanting to push the car on holiday and they'll come in handy next winter
