Technical Which fuel filter for my Stilo?

Hi,
I am about to change my JTD Stilo's fuel filter but I have just found there 2 different filter for it. I would like to know the difference. Does any know what is the difference?

From shops4parts web site:
Engine number from 0252018 onward.
Part No.: S4p1038
Price: £10.43 + VAT + Delivery
Engine number before 0252018.
Part No.: S4P1007
Price: £11.45 + VAT + Delivery


From my local EuroCarParts
Stilo JTD before 2003
Price: £8.24 + VAT
Stilo JTD after 2003
Price: £25 +....

By looking into the difference between 2 parts, I cannot see any difference. The size and spec are the same.

Anyone know the difference between these 2 fuel filter?

I found the difference between old and new fuel filter.

The new one has a sensor at the bottom. Don't know what sort of the sensor through...

The new one also has deeper hole to let the sensor dip in. Old one cannot be used on 2003 onward engine. The reason is the bottom hole wasn't deep enough for the sensor to put in.

On my early 2003 JTD I used the cheap filter. I tool the sensor out of the old one and screwed it into the new filter. No problem at all.

I was thinking about that as well but I wasn't sure what's in that long stick which will dip into the filter.

When you cut that stick shorter to fit into the cheaper filter.... what's in there? Is it pure plastic? If so... I wonder what sort of sensor is that? Almost no function....

I didnt have to cut or modify anything and it is probably a good idea not to. The new filter was exactly the same size as the old one. Maybe my car sat around for a while and was actually one of the earlier ones anyway. I didnt know there were different diesel filters on a JTD.

When you buy a new filter element, they sometimes come with a white plastic drain plug in the bottom. Some people don't bother with the water sensor, just leave the drain plug there. That's how my car was when I bought it, so I bought a complete filter, housing and sensor on eBay for £35.

I suspect the probe is made from conducting plastic. Makes contact in water but not in oil (diesel).

Just checked my Stilo technical manual. It is "Water Presence Sensor".
