Was out in my evening walk with tiny man...

This caught my eye

Doesn't look much but something about it pinged my interest.

First it should have alloys given the fogs...but it's old so forgivable. 4x matching Michelin's on a ratty car? Very hmm given the steels. Small lip spoiler? Wait a mo...

Get to the the back all standard but for 2 down played but large custom Stainless silencers either side.

Somehow I doubt it still has 240bhp...it was also AWD according to the badging I bet it is a proper sleeper.
A nice "Street Sleeper", doesn't attract attention, but can tear the ar*e of most others and handle fairly well also.:)

I clocked the front lower spoiler and side skirts and thought it was a V70R. I always liked the C70 (coupe) from that era but you almost never see them now.

I did test a C70 cabrio a few years back, it was the T5 engine so probably similar to that wagon and it was not only a fantastic engine but also a really nice drive with buckets of power

It drove past later...it didn't sound standard but despite the large exhaust system it wasn't loud either.

Very little of the 5 cylinder warble you associate with these...but certainly sounded healthy. Wonder if it's like when this engine got used in the RS Focus, you lose the noise when you upgrade to a more serious manifold and turbo combo.

Weird really it tried so hard to be a sleeper it caught my eye.

It was badged V70 R AWD...so it may well be an R (look ups on the DVLA data base tend to be all over) not downbadged just downplayed.

I thought the R models were more like 295-300hp but I might be wrong or the system might be wrong.

They command very healthy money now, and in sleeper terms they are easy to spot by those in the know but just look like any other Volvo estate to anyone else.

It's probably pulling wrong, unless the full title is Volvo V70 T5 V70 R or something ridiculous and it's been truncated.

I don't see someone spending the time and effort of building an R replica...then battering the bumpers to match the rest of the patina and not fitting the right wheels despite going to the extent of getting the right badging.

The internet thinks 4 speed auto cars were detuned to 240 which is correct for this car and backs up it being an R.

Unfortunately the owner caught me taking a photo...so either he knows I know..or he knows I'm bloody weird.

or both
Probably both.

I have a friend who is a bit of a Volvo nut, I think his current daily is some 240 model with an abomination of a turbo grafted on from something else. Not that long back he had a massive barge of a 740 estate.

He’s quite fickle and things change rapidly, I think he’s had about 3? Maybe 4 cars in the last 18 months

My sister just bought a Mercedes GLA, coming next week. Looking forward to seeing it. Tried to convince her to get a Lexus but the same age/mileage were about three grand more so that went out the window.

All wheel drive, automatic. Who wants to make a bet over whether the tyres match? If it were me, I'd use that as a subtle sign of how much the previous owner cared. I reckon... if its the first owner, then yes.... anything after then no.. Stay tuned... to find out next week hahaha

Over herechildren may not use high speed rotary power tools..... LOL

It also has a rubber apron (kinky), and a tool kit containing....
electrical insulation tape. 🤣😂😅🤔
The uninsulated shaft of the free electrical testing screw driver is also a novelty. I must send it to Dtrumparse as a christmas present....

Careful, the new Pope is ours. The memes have been coming fast and furious. My Chicago Bear fan buddies sent me this one.

This may be an unfair advantage for the Da Bears.

This one is mine.

It will be interesting to see what he says or makes of the current administration in the US I think he’s already made some comments about following faith rather than technology.

He also has quite a wide and interesting history. And quite young for a pope at just 69. He might last more than 5 minutes

He has already stated his dislike for this administration, Vance by name.
He is very intelligent and is a polyglot, speaking six languages. Which is rare on this side of the pond where a portion of the population can barely speak English coherently.
In our defense, you can drive for days and not encounter a different language. Dialects, yes. Languages, no.

I'm disproportionately pleased with myself this morning. For many years I've had a very long string of small LED lights which get strung round and inside the "mushroom tree" (weeping birch) and along the fencing to either side of it in my front garden at Christmas time. It's a very long piece of kit and really quite a handful to deal with. When I was dismantling it last New Year I got a bit tied up and disoriented stripping it out of the tree and lost my balance. This caused me to stagger forward and I broke one of the wires. I was very annoyed with myself as about a third of the lights were dead as a result.

Anyway, I bundled them up and put them in the big box where I keep all the electrical Christmas stuff intending to solder the wires back together when I'd time. Probably a month or so later I got the soldering Iron out and set about it. But, damn it, the solder wouldn't "take" to the wire. Looking closely at the wire, although it is copper coloured, I don't think it's actually copper. I took a hobby knife to it and scraped the wire and, right enough, it's a lacquer! When scraped away the wire looks like steel? I was using multicore solder but also have some aggressive solder past so tried some of that. But, no good, the solder still wouldn't "wet" the wire. So I gave up again.

This morning I thought. "Ok, I've got some small bore copper tube. Lets try pushing a length of this tube over one end of the wire (like you would with heat shrink) then clean the ends of both wires, twist them together, pull the tubing over the joint and flood the whole thing inside with solder? Even if the solder doesn't "wet" the wire the fact it's twisted together and now entombed in a flood of solder inside the little bit of tube, Surely current will flow? And, Hurrah, it does. The lights are all working just fine again. Luckily I'd pushed a length of heat shrink onto the wire before I started so I was able to enclose the whole repair in heat shrink and, hopefully, that'll make it water tight for next Christmas's display. I have icicle lights along the front of the house attached to the garage and porch roof and more stuff in the living room window too, so there is a lot going on out front of our house at that time of year. It's put a big smile on my face and allowed me to forget we're going for our anti viral Jags this afternoon.

My Father in Law bought a cheap box of disposable gloves,

Good size and came with 5 fingers,
and a Thumb

East of England may have a need of these 😊

I wish him the best in an important role. Although Im not one of his flock, I recognise that he like our sovereign has a position of considerable influence as a voice for good. I value the potential this offers to reason and decency in this rough world we inhabit.
