Congratulations on your new garage.

All my garages have been single skinned and not insulated so I've always kept my decent tools indoor in the house.

The problem with garages is that they can become easily cluttered and no room to work on a car in the winter or wet weather so sensible shelving (floor or wall), roof hangers, etc. are a good investment when finances permit.
The garage is single skinned but inside the house, I’m looking to put some insulation and board out the walls, it’s big enough that it won’t have much impact on the space in the garage. However I have a pretty hefty list of things todo before that so chances of getting the project car in there any time soon is slim.

Speaking of which, I have spent the last 3 months looking for the perfect fiat coupe….

So I would like to introduce you all to my new little/tiny little project car. A 98 Punto Cabrio

When was the last time you saw one of these on the road? Let’s just say I got a lot of funny looks from people who clearly didn’t know what it was and even got a thumbs up from a guy as he over took me. Such a cheerful little car. Just needs a lot of work, it’s been unloved for quite some time

First job, install a gallon of waxoyl, or similar. From forum posts, these like to rust at the rear of the sills, and the rear subframe mounting points. Make a sticky mess on your new drive.

The rear subframe will be coming off be bushes, shocks springs, brakes and brake pipes so will get replaced an a good look at the state of everything will be conducted, so far it’s surprisingly solid everywhere I look

"Me too" as they say, luckily no wives to complain anymore about my welders etc.;)

If it's anything like me and motorbikes, you have just guaranteed a wet Summer.;)

That's seems to be their
'Business Model'..

A "bag of sand" - as a 'float' / buffer

Our Octopus account was nudging £500 in credit by May.. So I cut their monthly payment significantly (they advised raising it- As if..)

It will soon be obvious if we are losing or gaining 🙂

Indeed it's currently driving my wife to despair... I'm trying to figure out how much gas we'd need to bloody use to actually achieve the 285 usage as electricity is pretty static.

I was debating getting a heat pump tumble drier as current condensing drier is occasionally making angry noises, it's very inefficient and creates a good chunk of condensation in the house so I'd like less of all of that.

However seems pointless when they are determined we're going to use an amount of gas electricity that would be pretty much physically impossible with the current set up.

Tesla and the increasing insanity of publicity stunts to try and stay in the news..

Yes 0-60 in 1 second now barely raises an eyebrow and self driving has been in beta since for getting on for decade so what can we do now???

I know..

Not that they're totally out of ideas...but I tend to not need this as I don't tend to drive through the battle of Agincourt. I'm also entirely sure making a vehicle to be bullet proof will have no impact on what is already likely to be a questionable kerb weight.

The typical car add on facebook market place these days

Generic Euro hatchback from 2005
Selling as spares or repairs as clutch has gone but it’s on a stage 1 remap Millage unknown as dew from being parked up for a while has killed the display and the battery is flat. The 2 front wings have rusted, welding done for its last MOT so now solid, no rust, and everything else is good just need gone for new car. £12,000 ono

Will take a swap for a Lamborghini Aventador..but only if it's a manual none of the e-gear crap.

Might consider a Gallardo swap if there's cash my way and it's a Balboni edition.

Having said that I was surfing car and classic and this caught my eye...

Both in when was the last time you saw one of those way and an absolute horror at what the modern equivalent would be..Kadjar..

First trip out today in the Punto with the roof down, chilly but sunny.

The windows are very slow doing up and down the roof is very slow and you have to stop half way to move a bar which should pull backwards but sticks and if ignored can cause the mechanism to cut into the fabric of the roof.

I think I might need to clean and lubricate all the moving parts of the roof and the windows, before any motors burn out.

I also need to find out what the fluid is that’s used in the hydraulics for the roof so I can empty clean and refil the system

I have been trying to locate source of water ingress to o/s/r foot well of my old Skoda Scout and re adjusted door as it has had slight knock in the past and damp appeared to be coming over the top of door, however on closer inspection after dropping edge of roof lining it was the sunroof drain for that side. the pipe was blocked with debris causing sunroof channels to over flow. I have been a bit shy of using the sunroof thinking if disturbed this time of the year and doesn't go back properly I will have the rest of the Winter to regret it, having experienced the hassle of Citroen Pluriel roof repairs in the past, fortunately this one seems much better behaved. So that is my smile for today.:)

Happy to say that today, after nearly three months, I finally have the Ural running better than new. It was fraught with lack of year of manufacture replacement parts, delays in shipments of the upgraded parts, chit breaking, having to be away from home for four days to deal with a 30 minute problem, alcohol laced fuel carb and filter issues, my own brain farts(sucks to get old), and a massive oil leak.

The rig has never sat this long with fuel in the tank, and what passes for petrol over here degraded the plastic downstream from the internal strainer in the fuel filters. That crud ended up in the carbs and caused all kinds of havoc. Brain fart was opening the fuel screws on the carbs 2.5 turns instead of 1.5. That was really running rich. The massive oil leak was caused by poorly molded push rod tube seals. It leaked badly enough that my winter boots are now waterproofed and there is now a modicum of rust prevention on the underside of the frame. The mufflers smoke a bit, too. That leak has been reduced to a slight seep that I hope to have rectified tomorrow.

I am now at a single kick to start, a smooth idle, and some low end grunt. I ran around the neighborhood a bit then did some slow speed riding off road. I'll stick with the Polaris ATV for that. The ATV is a pillow off road, the Ural is a brick.

I still have to rebuild the front wheel as a bearing spun in the hub. The new hub is on order and should be here this week. So, remove the tire and tube, remove the spokes, re-lace spoke to the new hub and old rim, true in the stand. They're Russian parts, so I can only cross my fingers and hope for the best. I'll take the old hub to the local machine shop and have it re-sleeved.

Oh, and I finally found my missing 8mm flex ratchet combo wrench. Sad to say, though, that the 9, 11, and 14mm wrenches from that set grew legs and are now MIA.

Fortunately you have the skills to overcome the problems, imagine taking it to a Motorcycle shop only familiar with modern bikes:(.
The fuel issue is over here also, with E10 10% Ethanol which is unsuitable for older petrol engines.
I see they call the original version E5 which is described as "super high octane unleaded" personally even that is rubbish compared with the good old days of 5 Star petrol as I proved when I used the old tankfull of 5 Star from my boat during a conversion to diesel, I filtered the old stuff which had been standing since 1982 when boat had been last used, then used it up in an old Fiat Uno, it was as though it felt a new lease of life, the difference in performance.
As an apprentice around 1970 I did a clutch job on an old Land Rover, two years later the girls at the riding stable burnt the clutch out again and I found my 7/16th AF Britool combination spanner still jammed on one of the seat bolts underneath in all the horse crap and it is still working to day, so there may be hope for your missing wrenches.:)

Reminds me of The Fiat Argenta. The sunroof channel was fixed to the roof panel at the front edge, and the rear corners. Along the sides and rear, there was a gap just below the roof. In normal rain, the drain channels could cope, but in a downpour, the channels would fill, and overflow to the inside of the roof lining, which took it well, but dropped it down the sides, like curtain airbags. Can't get the rooflining out unless windscreen or rear window removed, so dropped down, and working up through the hole, I managed to squeeze lots of bath seal in there. 99% success. Car long gone, but what a silly design.

Some nice easy jobs on the micra at the weekend, full service, sump replaced, and both rear wheel bearings. Sump and wheel bearings were MOT advisories, so a few less things to worry about.

Most difficult part was just the usual fight with drum over the brake shoes...

You'd hope that all the data colected would target the ads, but I don't think that's working well.
Currently, there's a row of young women in underwear, on behalf of Temu. Not been visiting any websites that might trigger that, so the algorythm might need some work.

I think it’s a random algorithm…I used to get the usual ‘***** enlargement’ ones then, all of a sudden, it changed to ‘breast augmentation’ 🤪
