On my way to speak to a financial adviser, and I see my old mk2b coming the other way! Absolutely delighted to see its still going! :)

Guy on Citroen forum posted a thread in celebration of his ds3 having a full month without trouble...

It then broke..

Now I know this is schadenfreude, but it still raised a smile much as I'm sure the poor guy is foaming..but since the ds3 has gone I'm not that guy!

Are they prone to breaking? I thought Citroen had improved their reliability record.

Main issues they seem to have is **** poor quality control so some are great...others are absolute Friday cars.

Other than THP engined cars, which combine a Peugeot TU block with a BMW designed head for the worst of all worlds..so a weak bottom end combined with a German chocolate timing chain and inlet coking problems...and fuel system problems.

Oddly the Quality of the C3 is noticeably better than the ds3 in terms of fit, finish and rattles and paint quality..also no rust so far..

The body panels actually fit the car so it's miles ahead of last one..also it's got through the hardest winter in years without the wheels turning to white rust and the chrome tarnishing.

DS3 is built in France C3 Slovakia...I suspect QA is more laissez faire in one of those locations..

It could be the DS3 was our "Friday car" but too many people seem to have the same issues we had to say it was a one off.

If it hadn't been a lease it would have been rejected, as it was I got the worst of it (rusty wheels, exhaust that broke off, water ingress and brakes that jammed after 2 weeks stationary..oddly the much more leggy Mazda was also stationary for that time with no ill effects) fixed under warranty. Left the bubbling paint and body panels as was as previous forum experience suggested the car would go in bad and come out worse and it was an ok 5 yard car.

Erm...

My wife...they have a certain charm and they aren't all that bad.

That and they are cheap..and if you have no intention of keeping it out of warranty it doesn't matter as long as it doesn't leave you at the side of the road to an extent.

She prefers an interesting car you don't see every day over road test criteria. So that's the answer I guess, she didn't see the issues it had as issues...it never left her at the side of the road or cost her a penny in repairs. I was the mug who kept on getting it fixed up but that was free.

I kinda agree tbf, especially on the C3 as it's more likeable anyway. In terms of "is it the best?" Is it f**k..but it's a nice thing to have around. She could have had a fiesta or polo or any other anodyne box in silver/grey/black but went a bit left field with a green Citroen.

One of those things I guess..it's a disposable item as we have no thoughts to keep it past 3 years that's not a bother. Also the fact the C3 is faultless so far helps..

Would you prefer to spend your time with something absolutely competent or a slightly flaky oddball that can make you smile I guess?

Surely there's a limit though? I'm well aware that Fiats' reputation is amongst the worst in the industry, indeed down there with the French manufacturers, but my car does make me smile whilst still being dependable. If it got to the stage where a month trouble free was a cause for celebration, then I'd trade the car in!

Oddly they are dependable..but a bad one is motoring equivalent of death by 1000 cuts. It never actually dies...it just niggles and annoys and rattles and deteriorates but runs. Then it'll have that day when you drive it and think "I should hate this car...but I'm enjoying this..little bastard". Similar to my old punto I guess...Stockholm syndrome for cars.

Good one is fine..and they do also make good ones. Hell there are people who've traded in problem cars for another the same and had no bother at all. Luck of the draw.
