Its still a 1961 Yank lump with pushrods and tiny ports. the Alfa V6 is a much better bet, but getting one with the 6 speed box will be less easy.
V8 was factory fitted on my car, will work with existing parts in most respects and simplifies insurance. the factory version was detuned to 137bhp and 262N-m, yet still managed 0-60 in 8.0 seconds. the standard V8 is around 160bhp and 280N-m. A 2.5 alfa V6 is about equal on power but a GTA has 300N-m of torque, may weigh less but fitting one would need lots of custom parts, and make insurance more difficult.
It'll be worth it all purely for the noise, the 50s designed austin 1.8 (with shared ports in the head! which itself was effectively based on a pre-war design!) sounds pretty rubbish!
