In the early 1970s when the trade price for Mots was 50p! Our garage used to take them to a small independent Tester who was in his seventies and deaf, I can recall him shoving a jack under the sill of a Hillman Avenger for it's first Mot happily crushing the sill and me shouting "Reg,Reg! As he carried on in oblivion, ever afterwards I would leap over and say "I will Jack it up for you", so Mot Station standards have improved slightly from then.;)
He also ran a large old recovery vehicle for the Police who would ring him at the local pub to come and tow a crashed vehicle from some drunk driver, which I thought ironic!
This lad is just dense. Nice enough but dont be rude to two short planks. I spent 3 days reforming sealing and repainting the sills last time and they are still a long way off perfect. When you have someone like that in a business you will end up losing a lot of trade. I havnt been in for a long time and have been elsewhere. Ive previously bought all my tyres from them for 30 years. This time I was not feeling great and I just missed an apointment in Norwich the day before due to flooding and heavy traffic, only by a few mins, they wouldnt even do tyres and forget the tracking, so I decided to cancel and come back local a second trip would. have added another £6. It did save me £60 but had he goosed the sills it certainly wouldnt have done. Good news was that they say the tracking front and rear is good. As the rear has been out for the last 5 years I am suspicious and will have it rechecked by the guys who have the right kit in the near future. But indications are at least fair. The front tyres fitted in April still look mostly OK, so put onto the rear and the new ones on the front. Interesting that even my daughter said she thought it felt better. The thing felt odd to me as the rear now feels better planted than the front rather than the other way around. When they are scrubbed in, it should feel quite good. Interestingly the prices everywhere were very similar. Apparetnly Continental have gone up more than most brands as they used to buy materials from Russia and presumably find it much harder now and pay more eslewhere. I didnt consider any other brands as the car just fels so much better on these so I dont know what other brands might have been. £95 did include tyre, valve, balance, disposal and VAT. This time I remmebered to retrieve my Fiat Valve caps as the lad chucked the last set away.......

Todays experiment...

Wife goes back to work tonight...and the question is..will this 150 mile average start with a 3 by Monday.

Place bets now...and yes the amount of dried fizzy pop on this gauge cluster is higher than optimal.

Like every job you have done, it is only as good as the person doing it!
Training like everything these days seems to be "dumbed down" and shortened.
The powers that be, believe that reducing the need for skilled labour is a good thing, possibly as a way of reducing union power?

Maybe if you point to where top gear is?;)
I am always saying to my daughters they can change up now.

It being a modern car... she's driving along with centre screen displaying a flashing up arrow and the suggested gear number.

We don't voice these things unless you want to receive a scorching critique of everything you've ever done wrong driving or otherwise.

At least we've got no chance of a flat battery..

Daughters VW Tiguan doesn't flash , but is clear from my passenger seat.
I tend to listen to the engine note, the trouble with modern sound deadening , you can't hear the valves bouncing. ;)

No more clips round the ear to make something stay with you for ever. All the older generation and their experience thrown away. Thats improvement!

If you are very lucky otherwise a 2.
Went in Daffo to buy tyres two days back, then to a house viewing with my daughter. Due to time, I went straight there and wife and daughter joined me in Noop. Daughter driving.... First reaction was bloody cheek. I bow refer to her asa TWOCer My average had dropped from 46 to 34 in 8 miles. Just shows that the TA is very different to the 1.2, as well as her shall I say, 'enjoying' the extra power.

you're not driving it properly if the pistons are not threatening to leave the engine and the valves aren't bouncing ?

That is the Italian car method of driving and how I will continue to drive any car made in Italy or designed by Italians, at that is what they expect.

Now as the car in question in this case is French and they have the same driving ethos, and knowing that @StevenRB45's wife is trained to drive emergency vehicles, I think any figure above 30mg is probably a bonus.

a scorching rebuke?
Mild.....
in my case "yet another" scorching rebuke.

Yes magister, no magister, three bags full magister.......

OUTSIDE YOU

Yes Maam

While I have relayed this story before....

It seems fitting it and you may have missed it.

A few years ago my wife mentioned a bloke from work would follow her home when they finished shift at the same time. He lived in the next village so not quite as creepy as it sounds, but he would flash the lights slow down and wave as she pulled in.

They weren't close friends so she was somewhat creeped out by it.

Sometime later they were talking after she'd returned from maternity leave and he mentioned he'd missed their morning race home after nights.

The image of him sitting there thinking he's having a dice with white knuckles and sweat on his brow while she's sitting there listening a podcast just going about her commute still makes me laugh now.

I had a good friend a few years back who was a local critical care paramedic he works now on the air ambulance, still works on the critical care car. He used to drive everywhere like he stole it, and I don't mean like you drive a rental, he had blue lights and didn't have to worry about such things as traffic lights. I went out on a few observation trips with him and I remember the first call we had one morning was an old dear who had fallen down and had by all accounts been waiting a while for someone to go and get her and pick her up, this was not a "critical care" case. we were in a honda CRV and by the time we got there which was only about 5 miles out into the countryside. Well all four tire were literally smoking and all four brake discs were glowing.

He got into trouble quite a few times for blowing engines and gearboxes on the Ambulance cars, So I can quite believe there are those ambulance people who think everything is a race.
