Had the shingles jag years ago and have been told you only get it once? Not quite sure I believe that? Anyway, booked in for combined flue/covid jag on Mon 21st this month some time ago and now hoping I'll be mobile enough to attend. If I miss it I don't know what happens then?

As a child I had a good dose of chicken pox to the point that with a summer tan you can still see the marks, fortunately not spoilt my good looks, how ever in spite of all my Covid injections I did catch Covid a couple of years ago and following it I developed Shingles , apparently that is not uncommon.
I mentioned to the nurse today about already having had Shingle, she said it won't stop you getting it again.
I must remember to put all the spare millions I have left over from my basic OAP pension into Pharmaceutical shares.:(
Not sure about the Russian Dolly birds , but if you can leave me your social security details and the pin number...........................;)

I’m not sure but I think it’s a bit wet n windy out there, just a bit mind 😉

With Mrs J now diagnosed with pneumonia and popping pills like there's no tomorrow - She's feeling a bit better today but that'll be due to the pills and I'm still very worried about her - and with me not yet two weeks since having the hip done, our doc has asked us to cancel and reschedule our covid/flue jags. Probably just as well as I can't see us making it for Tuesday. I'm taking meals up to Mrs J in bed just now, mostly soup and a roll, but there's a definite element of Julie Walters "two soups" about it all with a flight of stairs to further complicate the whole thing!

Yes, but which one are you?;)

This seems simple, but didn't occur to me imediately, soup travels well in a thermos without spillage. Not so easy with tonight's roast.

Toooo sooouuuups

Work chat is buzzing...a colleague has broken down and needs assistance.

Of course this is the replacement Mercedes that replaced the other Mercedes that kept going into limp mode...this one on the other hand has overheated.

"Why does this keep happening to me?"

At least the problem has a big circle round it on the front of the car.

You'd imagine having a car that baffled all garages and you were told to sell on because they had no idea how to fix it would have soured the experience but did it again. Hopefully it's not going to be another parts cannon job at a main dealer after all the local German car specialists have shrugged...

But hey...everyone is free to learn from mistakes though buying 5 year old Mercs does some to be a more expensive learning experience than most.

Edit: and the diagnosis is...the plastic thermostat housing has failed.

Personally I think like Volvo , Mercedes build quality waned after the mid 70s.
In the 1980s I had a 1976 350 SE Mercedes that I bought from a work friend for £500 after he had run it down a wall, I spent ages sorting it out and sold it for £2000, which sounds great except I only made £200 profit and that was by ignoring the hours I had spent on it.
So you can see when they say mechanics make poor car salesmen they are right. They try to fix everything they see wrong, unlike car salesmen who don't see anything wrong, especially after it has left the forecourt;)
Anyway two years after selling it the buyer came back asking if I had anymore for sale, as it had been such a good car!

Brothers merc has had nothing wrong in 4/5 years, much better than his two Audis, one of which spent, in its first year, more time at the dealership than in his possession

There absolutely was a time they were engineered like no other car....

But that time has not been in any year starting with a 20.
Agreed with a little caveat.

In the 90s the quality was cut, they got a bad reputation and in the last 5-10years they have been making quite a big effort to make better cars, but that only applies to the better more expensive models, buy an A class and it’s not going to be any better than any other car.

A work friend of mine had a nearly new A class that kept unlocking itself, the alarm would go of randomly and then on other occasions the immobiliser would not deactivate, I’d be inclined to buy the car but she got it from one of these massive second hand car dealers and all the problems in my view pointed towards a botched remote system having been fitted to immobilise the car if you missed a payment on your finance deal, they can also track the car for purposes of repossession if needed

You take it as steady as possible. May be a family SOS could be in order? I bet you never ask......

Our mercedes vito at work does have a reputation of being unreliable and expensive to fix. It's given more trouble that the rest, but it is by far the comfiest to drive (even if a bit gutless)

The last Merc van I worked on was a 608D on my back changing a flywheel ring gear in the 1980s, when the flywheel finally came loose it tried to crush my hands on the steering shaft, the pleasures of working on your own. I much preferred my Iveco Daily 3.5 tonne's.:)

Yup, there’s a haulage, plant and workshop near us and they have the contract for gas, electric and one of the supermarket fleets.
Although he didn’t like the ivecos (he’s a Ford man through n through) he bemoans the fact that some of the ivecos (vans) have been replaced with mercs, he doesn’t mind the extra work (money money money) he says there’s so many silly faults they’re blocking his workshops!

You're right, we don't. My daughter is always berating us about it. The pneumonia has scared them all a bit though and there's been a number of concerned phone calls. I mentioned that I'd probably have to try to get to the shop tomorrow as we're running low on bread and milk. Just before I went in for the hip we did a "super size" shop so we're actually well stocked for a siege but the milk and bread are low. Anyway, about 15 minutes after putting the phone down the door bell rang. It's Tesco woosh with a plastic bottle of "green" milk and a loaf of "Half and Half" bread. Oh well, that will be my daughter's doing as I've seen them eating this bread when we've stayed with them. Mind you she's near Salisbury Wilts where as the boys are both up here? I'm now wondering what that cost her for a loaf and the milk delivered to the door in such a short time.

Both my boys supplemented their incomes for a while by doing supermarket deliveries and drove automatic Mercs. They did talk about them breaking down quite a lot.
