There were a lot of test flights, and very few members of the public were stuck in there during trials or incomplete systems.
as soon as they were able to get something that would leave the ground they were taking money from people to fly in them. So thats not true at all.

eveything that is developed has to be tested in the real world at some point. companies have spent years and millions trundling around on test tracks in their little self driving cars, and even more time in controlled situations testing them on the road.

same with aviation every time a plane takes off there is still the potential for something to break or fail in a way that has not yet been envisioned by the designers the Max 8 737 proved that.

There will always come a point that you have to say that this is safe "enough" as nothing will ever be 100% safe.

Entirely true...

But one is piloted by a literal pilot who to even be in the seat must undergo extremely thorough training, drills in a simulator on what do if the worst happens and has regular refreshers etc etc.

The other can be piloted by Shanice..who was last seen in the back of her car at 70 miles an hour making a tiktok.

This is hilarious !!! 😂 😂 😂 😂

still in the early days of aviation the pilots had little/no training at all and were flying things made of string and paste

In the early days of aviation a man died because he thought the best way to test a parachute was to jump off the Eiffel tower wearing it.

This history records was a poor choice...

You'd hope we've progressed somewhat from safety rules being written in blood. Especially when the testing is occurring in a public space...and those doing the testing are largely unaware they are guinea pigs for new tech and think it to be well developed.

I dont remember reading about the millions that died in each aircraft type, with all the crashes as they tried to get the planes to fly right

You would hope things had improved but as history teaches time and time again, Human kind show no end to their inventive, creative and sometimes really impressively complex ways to kill themselves.

you bring a new product to market, people find away to kills themselves with it, or other people.

You do know that even after 100 years of flight that anyone can design and build themselves a new aircraft there is whole categories dedicated to “experimental” aircraft and they do crash…

or her granny.... I agree. My nephew has just passed his AIrbus 360 training. It totally staggered me hwo intensive and extensive it was. I am very happy to know just how thorough the training is. 10 hour sessions in the simulator with every possible thing thrown at you and a requirement to respond pretty well straight away. Not fool proof but reassuring.

Because you maybe have not kept up with the discussion or the analogy that was made?
No, i have, it just don't line up.

You are comparing the design and test of manned piloted aircraft (pilots that are expertly trained), that operated in free space with low risk to the public, to unmanned cars with systems not fully developed in highly populated public areas.

The analogy is just crap

Come off it, we all drive Fiats......

Not today but an interesting one for observers of this sort of thing.

Passed a stricken luxury vehicle the other day it was not there when I passed previously about an hour before. Man next to it on the phone, hazards on but suspiciously dim on the front.

Being of the vehicle type where there's an option for everything, front dim hazards were incandescent bulbs in passing I moved to the rear. This had LEDs which I believe in normal circumstances would be sequential scrolling indicators but were doing nothing.

One has to assume that requires an ECU which wasn't getting enough power from the battery it had flattened.

Well done lads, in making it fancy you've made it worse..top work. Wonder how many hours plain incandescent bulbs or even a standard indicator with an led bulb would have worked for.

Found a water leak in the boot of my Seicento, not to worry though as the culprit has been traced quite quickly as I went into the car whilst it was hammering it down & saw where it was coming in, it's both rear lights seals which the nearside is worse than the offside, apparently it's quite common on these so I'll have to get some which you can only get from Fiat by the looks of it so I'm preparing for some open wallet surgery 🤣🤣

Some years ago we had a customer who complained the car she had bought from us was damp and smelt.
We couldn't trace the source until one day she brought the car in and while she waited I had it on the ramp.
I opened the door and immediately saw the source of her problem, I called her over and showed her what it was.
Her two show dogs were using the passenger foot well as their toilet, end of complaint!;)

That must of smelt awful, I'd be embarrassed if that was my car
