What's made you not grumpy but not smile either today?

Looking forward to the global warming we've been promised. Get that DeSoto out and contribute some greenhouses gases.
Funny how they all rant and rave about global warming whenever the temperature is above average, then silence when it's below average. Just a part of my skepticism on the benefits of green.

Came into work for 67 emails about various cold weather warnings...and one informing me 2023 was the warmest year on record.

Because weather and climate are not the same thing.

The temperature now is cold...the average temperature globally last year was higher than at any time since we started keeping records.

I.e. Unless it remains like this for 4 months and lowers the average and does the same for multiple years..it being cold for a week is statistically insignificant when you're talking about trends covering decades..

Although one theory is global warming may make the UK colder..as it may divert the jet stream and we then end up with weather that matches how far north we are.

And one time there was a thing called an "ice age", now it's so much hotter therefore it must be true.

I'm not gonna debate with you as clearly you know it all and have done your own peer reviewed research.

I was merely pointing out that one week of cold of weather is not a trend.

I was merely pointing out that one week of cold of weather is not a trend.
And I was pointing out that every time we have anything above average it's the end of the world due to climate change.
My issue is there's no one I trust, everyone with their own hidden agenda.

The term 'global warming' was created by British Government advisors during Margaret Thatcher's reign. Dealing with miners' strikes and restricted oil supplies from the Middle East at the same time, she needed a way to get parliament to agree to nuclear power. Global warming was coined, as other electricity generation methods all produce CO2, whereas nuclear does not. Since then, the phrase has taken on a life of its own.

This planet has gone through more than one ice age. There must therefore have been periods of warming and cooling for there to have been more than one. I doubt the previous warming cycles were down to us overusing our cars. I've heard that we are still theoretically in an ice age, having not fully come out of it yet, so some warming is expected. At some time it will either level out, and then start to cool again, at which time we'll either all breathe a sigh of relief, unless we've already stopped breathing.

The next phrase to get a life of its own is 'save the planet'. There was a scientist on Radio 2 last year who nicely pointed out that the planet does not care. It will continue being a planet, regardless of our existence on it. What we are trying to do, is save us.

The anesthetic has finally worn off and Mrs. Cheest has hit the Pain In The Ass stage of recovery. Whatever I do to help is wrong and I now know about several more of my shortcomings. ;) I said, "Okay, Marlene" and that quieted her down a bit. Marlene was a manager where I worked who had an attitude problem that I took great pride in provoking. That started when she had a snoot full and insulted me in front of Mrs.Cheest at a company shindig and Mrs.Cheest let loose on her in front of all the company brass.(That was priceless, by the way. The first time I ever heard Mrs.Cheest drop F-bombs)

Akin to Stevens posts of last week

My 500 started making vague noise, at 55'ish mph on long trips,

The sort of noise that builds

I thought "rear left" , passenger thought "right rear"..
Probably behind us then..
😉

Contemplating the hassle of a rear wheel bearing, I then needed to over take a truck.. Up to 65 mph, forgot all about the noise,

Only when slowing again did I remember... (It stops at 65 mph)

Unlikely to be a bearing then 🤔

It's just a rumble..

So found time to raise the rear wheels,
RHS looked OK, spun it... Minor deviations (it's covered @20k)

Left..looked OK.. Few stones in the treads, spun it..
Aha.. IT'S SHAPED LIKE A HEART ♥️

Vaguely round, but with a series of peaks and troughs 🖤

Put it on the front (swapped)
Noisy at 20mph, QUIET AT 50

How weird is that!

These are cheap UK made tyres already @5k in when I bought the car,
2 new Continentals on order

Neighbours just arrived home, noisily as usual. Glancing out, she carrying a large pack of 'Puppy training pads'.
They have a small dog, got it early in lockdown, as did many people. No idea how to train it, it barks at everything, and keeps barking until it gets tired, never been told to be quiet.
So the question now, are the pads for the existing dog, or have they added another?
Good to know our taxes are being used well, as none of the household works.

While as some/most will be aware C3 has been driving me to mild distraction with a slightly noisy wheel bearing (which will be getting fixed).

Had to feel for a work colleague who has a diesel Mercedes GLA...it's been going into limp mode for nearly a year supplying dealer can't fix it, Mercedes can't fix it, it went to a German car specialist who "fixed" it and advised them to move it on as in their opinion it'll happen again. It should be said it keeps losing all power at random..so you'll be doing 70 and all of a sudden top speed is now 25...makes motorway work an adventure.

It went in for it's first MOT...failed on drop links new ones were fitted... incorrectly so that was another trip back.

And finally they can't sell it without losing 8k in 12 months..sometimes the grass is brown everywhere.

Many years ago a friend had a nearly new Mercedes Vaneo Automatic he had had from new, back to dealers many times and as you say Motorway speed then down to 25-30 mph so down right dangerous, after over a year of that, mostly in garage fault turned out to be in autobox ecu, then he sold it. :(

No sympathy. Should av bought a Fiat!

My lad had a Merc GLA thing and although he admired the posh interior which he said was the best on offer anywhere it too was unreliable suffering a major fault that took a long time to fix. Not what you expect from a premium quality product. Panda on the other hand has run faultlessly and rattle free for nearly 5 years now. I took my uncle out in it a few days ago and he was suprised how comfy it was and commented several times how good the ride was.

Pandas on the top.

Heating boiler buzzing noises from the burner. On removing the cover it was quite alarmingly loud last night at 10pm. IO shall have to ring out man I announce. Call made 9.20. Man arrived 9.45. I had a listen but it was quieter when cold, Anyway he removed the burner - 2 minutes, the pump, another 6 minutes, and ran rhe unit up. Verdict noisy bearing on the motor. New motor suggested by me and 20 minutes later one was fitted. I then threw in the knackered oil level; check pipe. Oh I can do that too if you like. Parts £90 job £140. So I threw him 150. That is gold level service. I think these guys like when they have a cleaned space with all the crap removed, and the covers off reqdy when they arrive. I said Id rather replace the motor than have it fail later. Im sure the bearing can be changed and teh motor will be re usable, so either eBay or keep as a reserve. Having stripped the motor down I was amazed with the brushless tech how few parts they have. Im sure it would have run for years making a racket but its nice to not hear the wheezing!

They are basically similar to what I have in my commercial steam cleaners I play around with, the only hard bit is all the circuit board stuff and getting wiring diagrams. Exchange Engineering are helpful for parts.
