What's made you grumpy today?

Poor wee Becky has suffered an assault in the Sainsbury's car park.

Mrs J has just returned and noticed it as she was getting me to unload the shopping. Such a pity as she only has one other dent on the N/S rear door and it's a lot less noticeable. Of course no note in the windscreen. I'm puzzled by how high it is and that it's not caught the front bumper, which protrudes much further - silly me, probably been massive SUV or even one of those ginormous pickup truck monstrosities.

As it hasn't broken the paint I'm going to live with it until we see what the MOT turns up. I see a small mark on the headlight glass, hope it hasn't disturbed the alignment? Just got to be thankful it wasn't the Scala I suppose?

My golf has worn a similarly positioned battle scar for about 8 years, following what I presume is a similar set of circumstances in a shopping centre car park

Apparently I am told the gold has a complex 5 layer paint process so I’ve never quite had the inclination to spend a fortune to have it fixed.

A good paintless dent repair could be employed but you need to find an independent as the big chain varieties will not touch this type of dent. Its so annoying, Daffo had a dent in the bonnet, but that was at least an accident. A tree branch got it in high winds.

My old local used to do Pussers Rum, but I think the genuine original was way stronger in the past.:)
My Uncle used to work for Seagrams and to my dads delight kept him topped up with Seagrams Navy 101 proof rum. I nevr got to try it.

Actually a 319. It sounded like something was broken and rattling appallingly.
I decided to try silicon spray first. First dose made it quieter, second dose normal rattle and creak free running restored. I see the correct radio tools are £21!! From the racket that broke out Im astounded spray cured it. Dry plastics can make an appalling noise.
Addendum
I now think that the noise is generated by the entire dash top moving. Its either the phone holder tray or the screen vent thats at the root of this noise and possibly also the base of the screen. I need to add some more spray and see if order is fully restored. At least I have finally worked out that resting my hand atop the dash stops the noise. Cheap plastic parts are always a pain the the rear end. Radio tool for £1.50 did the job but the radio area is definitely not involved in the rattle. It explains why it required such a shove on the radion area was needed to restore silence.

If you replace that front corner panel, my advice is try look in person for the replacement to see if the white shades match. I replaced that panel on my Panda in 2017 and either it was a different shade of grey, or just much differently wore out by the sun or newer. It was always obvious but it was a reminder to me to be way more careful.

I always park at the back of the car parks now in fear of this. Mostly as when I drive past or walk past big family cars, or even things like fairly new Evoque's... the drivers have the door shamelessly anchored against the car next to them..... if I park close to the entrance then I make sure it's between two ego-cars, ones that are so nice and fancy (or just the usual 'car people' cars in specs or with mods they value) as I believe these people will be more careful in not wanting their own cars damaged thus not damaging mine! As usual though, maybe the logic only exists in my head... but I still do it.

That's very similar to my way of doing things. Unfortunately the fly in my ointment is Mrs J who thinks I'm being silly and likes to park as near to the store entrance as she can manage. On the few occasions she's been with me and I've managed to park away from the nutters, we've returned to the car only to find another, often big SUV, parked right next to us. Why do people do this? plenty of vacant spaces but they still park right against us? illogical or what?

Me too, but some years back I parked my large white Renault Laguna at the far end of a car park some 50 yards away from anything else. Returning I was greeted with massive damage. The garage wanted to cut 1/4 of the car away replacing the rear quarter and C pillar. Door also wrecked. Someone must have been REALLY TRYING. No note as you would expect. It took me a month to find the responsible person... I visited every house in a 15 mile radius! In the end the idiot actually parked next to me in the same car park! I was waiting when he ansMrs idiot returned. I had already worked out the make andmodel of car from recovvered debris. It was the wife trying denial. He caved quite quickly and itcwas settled by insurance but that would be getting on 25 years ago. Cost of my repair was £2500 Im still paranoid, especially as Noop is irreplacable. vHe has many extras chosen by me including CBC which makes it impossible to replace even if a very very low miles car wascavailable. Ive nurtured him from new and no expense avoided in service and maintenance. Hes kept spotless, garaged and driven only by me or mrs PN (Hardly ever). If he was damaged and written off I would be well miffed. Thankfully more people show respect round here than dont. Pandas fit well inside standard parking bays too so other behemoth drivers have spacethey neglect to give normal people..

PS IM NORMAL!!!🤪

This comes from our basic instincts, 'safety in numbers'. If you are walking through the town centre, alone, on a dark evening, you will feel uncomfortable passing a group of youths who appear to be a little the worse for drink. If you are accompanied, even by someone unable to fight, you still feel less vulnerable.
This instinct draws us to park next to others, all sub-conscious. Another draw is that aligning with another vehicle is easier than aligning with the white lines. Thsi can be seen often with a whole row of misaligned cars, all parallel to each other.

Unfortunately no chance we're going to ever find who did it.

Going for our Covid/Flue jags today and that means parking on about the 5th floor of the Ocean Terminal shopping mall. Becky is just made for this. She whips round all the tight corners and fits very easily into the marked parking slots.

What's made me grumpy? trying to help my granddaughter with her homework. Turns out she is dyslexic - has trouble with numbers in particular but also in generally grasping concepts. I see so much of myself in her. Have long thought I have problems like this myself - dyslexia wasn't a thing back when I was in school though.

Right, said I, let's have a go at this. Expecting an exercise book to appear I was a bit surprised when she whipped out a lovely shiny chromebook and fired it up. Apparently they are all issued with one at the start of senior school - she moved up this year - Ten minutes later I had to admit that, although she might be having problems, I had absolutely no idea what was going on. School is obviously a very very different place to what we all grew up with.

I now often photograph the vehicles next and opposite to mine in any multi storey and indeed other car parks as we park up. One good use for mobile tech! Sad you need to do this. I can remember right back to 1963 when my dad had a new Vauxhall Victor, one of the first Type F models if I have it right. It was in the market square in March (Cambs). On returning to the car it was scratched!!! Low and behold a note under the wiper with an apology and the name and address to get it sorted. Why I wonder has the decency gone from society? May be 'you can smack little Jimmy for his appalling behaviour' and body cams on every police officer, and all the over bearing political correctness that has not just, (rightly) modified some types of offensive (sometimes unintended) behaviour we used to see and do, to the extent its just plain bloody stupid??? I know you can debate this for hours, and that great change was required back then, and still is in places, BUT its clear to me at least that the baby got well and truly half drowned stuck in the plug hole while the bath water ran out! That memory of someone doing the right thing went in deep. Doing the right thing in life is fundamental to getting life right. Common practice and even teaching is self servitute these days it seems.

Back on topic. Buying small light economical and environmentally less damaging vehicles is right! PANDAS ON THE TOP

By the way Jock I was looking on eBay at available Pandas yesterday and there are at least half a dozen 1.2 models (Easy and Lounge) with under 30K at good prices. A couple of 169s with silly miles 10 and 11K that look cracking as well as a few 319s. They are well spread out but Im on the look out now for one last one. Theres a really nice 1.2, with no miles, but £15K is off the scale mad on the price. If I think that, if Panda Mad me isnt tempted..... who on earth is going to splash the cash. My problem is Ruby our 2014 car is really such a beauty it would really neeed a virtually new car to make it worth while changing it. The engine is the best of the 5 169s Ive bought, and by a mile. I fear any replacement might not be as good.

My kids lost me aged about 5.... I have mild dyslexia, I have learned to live with it. If I take great care can get by fine. Annoying when you need to read things three times before some words appear as they are rather than something totally different. Its almost worse in the modern world as words flash up and disappear before you get it. My mother noticed the issues but as you say it wasnt really a thing back then so we were juut classed as thick. It manifests in words typed using keys on the wrong side of the keyboard and reversing pairs of letters... hence my posts are dreadful unless I re read them 3 or four times. Im compensated by learning fast. I never had to revise for exams, if something was passed on to me visually or verbally it always stuck unless I had no interest.
The word blindness problem has reduced over the years and while I have never read ANYTHING I didnt need to in my younger years I have started reading in the last 3 or four years, and now realsie what Ive been missing. Ive read more books this last 2 years than in the entire of teh other 60+ years. Odd how we are all so different.

Seeing as we have a happy version... and I'm having a crap day (like a few others on here)...

My reasons are:

I feel ill, I'm stuck at work, my love life is all a bit complicated, my ex is trying to scam me out of my money, I'm not hugely rich at the moment, I've a punctured rear tyre on my bike, I'm knackered and thats about it:(

What's made your day crap?
Im in a bad news as fiat are useless! I signed up for the uconnect at 54p and they charged me £8.99, for the bargain price I can unlock and lock my doors, precondition the car and flask the lights. Do not buy the fiat 600e red unless you want to speak to fiat often as the app is useless ans stops working all the time@ for £8.99 id exeect them to open the door for me, woth an umbrella today!

Really angry at myself, but calming down now. 11.45 this morning I was just finishing a big post about DAF cars. I'm slow at typing so had lost track of the time. Mrs J stuck her head round the door, gave a big sigh and said "you know we're due at the vaccination centre in half an hour to get our flue and covid jags don't you?" I rushed upstairs and put my jeans on before rushing back down whereupon Mrs J said "we'll just call into Aldi on the way back so can you grab the shopping bags please", which I did whilst picking up my phone, wallet, house keys etc while rushing out to Becky (Panda) while Mrs J set the alarm and got into the passenger seat.

Traffic jam on the way to the centre (Ocean Terminal) so we got there late but it didn't matter as they were all very organised and just slotted us in. They must be doing the bookings by area this year as most of the neighbours around our age were there. It was a bit of a social occasion really! 20 minutes later and we were on our way back to the car when I realised the house keys weren't in my pocket. tried all my pockets - no keys. searched the car when we got back to it - no keys. Retraced my steps back to the vaccination centre - no keys. Damn. However Mrs J locked the front door so maybe I never took them with me? So, did the Aldi shop and went home. helped put the shopping away and started looking for the keys. I must have searched pretty much every part of the house I'd been in since getting out of bed - No damned keys! I was by now very angry with myself - how could you be so pathetic I thought! Then mrs J said "have you looked in the shopping bags?" Third bag I upended, out clattered the keys. They must have slipped out of my fingers as I picked the bags up before leaving the house and had been there all the time. It's now 15.42 hrs and we've been back in the house more than an hour! Now i just need to chill out and calm down before I take a stroke or heart attack. Trouble is I'm doing this sort of thing more and more these days.

Its such a shame, another good looking Fiat is let down by bad service back up. There are enough warning signs on here to indocate the 600e needs a wide birth thoug and your psot is yet another one to add to reasos NEVER to buy a Stellantis product. The 600 is a car I could see me buying but based on the clear evidence on the forum its status as one of the most difficult to use and unreliable cars ever made is being firmly cemented. I would not want to be trying to sell one 5 or 6 years down the line as I suspect depreciation will be stupendous. If one of the many idiots at Fiat or STellantis read the car forums and repsonded I personally would have a heart attack and die. They clearly dont give even half a **** about their cistomers . I have had a few issues with my Fiats and have rung Fiat Customer Services on the 0800 number. I have to say that their response from Italy has been heavily customer oriented and I have had good even great results from this, especially when I have told them and sent picts of the 3 Fiats we had at the time. It might be worth a try and seeing if they will sort it out.

I do this with wallet and or keys once every other day. Ha ha. THAT's annoying. At least you didnt forget, and you dont do any thing demetia like. You just dropped them. Thats forgivable if annoying. I on the other hand worry its more serious. I have places to put specific things. If only I could stick to it. I read a leaflet on dementia yesterday. I tick ALL the boxes. But then im not much worse than I was 30 years ago lol. Nurse asked if I want the test. Im going to think about it for now.

Yup, my memory is absolutely atrocious. Think of something, climb the stairs but can't remember what it was when I get up there. Put tools down on a job, then can't find them when needed. And so on. Used to really worry me but now, most of the time, I just shrug and pick up an alternative. Never walk away without tracking it down though. Often have to go round wheel nuts more than once just to be sure!

On the schools issue, I have found that so many young people struggle to write anything. So little time is spent on handwriting it seems, then later, everything is done on screen, so they learn to type with two fingers. Hand them a fountain pen, and they'll destroy the nib.

As for climbing the stairs and forgetting why, been a member of that club for a few years now. For many more, I've been 'losing' tools. Use it, put it down beside you, can't find it a few moments later. Yet, there it is when clearing up. These things hide. I bought a set of small picks a year or so ago. Used them once, no idea where they've gone.

What completely confused me with the computer was the use of quite adult terms and language - some of it "configuration", precipitation, Virocell, etc and instructions to look in certain sub files for homework. For a girl who is just 12 and just moved up from the "baby world" of primary school and with dyslexic problems? I couldn't figure out what they were wanting her to do with the computer let alone actually finding the homework itself. I think it's very good that they are using these devices and learning about them, but it's no good unless the pupil has a good grasp of how to use them.

I have two collapsible work benches. A posh Black and Decker workmate which I saved after the scouts had lit a disposable barbeque on it and ruined the wooden jaws. Quite easy to make new ones and "rescue" it. I also have a very cheap one with nothing like the versatility of the Black and Decker but very adequate as a portable table. I always set it up beside where I'm working and put tools down on it. I never risk putting a tool down on a vehicle scuttle or anywhere other than the bench or the floor. Seems to work, because even after my boy, or whoever, has disappeared with the car, the tools are still there for me to clean and put away.
