I sold my dewalt drill when the batteries were U/s. I couldnt find replacements.... I got back nearly a third what I paid for it 7 years earlier, I have decided to buy orded tools wherever its possible from now on. This battery replacement, and failing chargersI used to have an iphone (I bought a 2nd one a few years after - 5 then an SE I think) until I saw the light.
Always bought the outgoing model when retailers were dumping them with some money off. would never spend more than £300 on it.
Then, like every phone the battery started giving reduced capacity, tried one or two replacement batteries, but they're just rubbish compared to an original.
So I went (back) to Android (motorola)... for £150 .... it does just fine.
There's absolutely no way I'd pay the insane prices (everything above £300 say
)
I'd need sectioning to even contemplate spending £600, £700 , £800 on a bloody phone
Im going back to corded tools now. The buy-a-charger-and-batteries con is over in this area. Corded unless its a not either massive benefit or essential. Its another giant con. I started using Ryobi one+ which are great quality tools, but the battery charger failed so another cost. My boys tell me there's a family whatsapp which they are going to get me started on - looking forward to that as it includes the American cousins and extended family living in the far south (Kent and Hampshire) I'm absolutely determined to get to grips with this it's just that I'm starting from such a low knowledge base.Now texting will come to you, its easy once you get it. Mine has a + button I click, to start a new one and then its type the sender number and message and send of course. Get the family to show you whatsapp. Its just a fancy text service, but also gives a free video calling service for friends and family. It runs on your broadband service when you are at home so no call costs. You can voice call, text, video call and swap photos easily. Probably the best thing out there for mobiles. My older daughter is in central america right now. It worries me shes visiting countries on the dont travel list. Nicuaragua today. Keeping in touch is reassuring and the photos are incredible. Due to plane troubles, both faults and weather made her two days late, so she failed to connect wth the travel group and had to ross Guatemala and Honduras on her own, making her own travel and accomodation arrangements till she caught up with the tour group. Being able to be in touch much of the time was a big relief. I know I couldnt do much in emergency, but I did know where she was. I do find I use waze, its the App associated with the Panda Waze. It has locations and prices of petrol stations at the touch of a button and some other useful warnings for road hazards. All this from driver input so its actually live. I use the google search for things like find cafe or toilet, hospital, doctor, police station, bust station near me etc, It will take a while but there are some good things. If we are out we can go off individually and then call to meet up again signal allowing.... best of all, "hello dear, did I leave my wallet on the table...."
I have managed to buy petrol by getting Mrs PN to give me the card mumber and security code over the phone so I could be charged via that route rather than being stuck. LOL

When I'm a bit more confident I'll take you up on the swapping pictures idea - don't even know how to take a picture or what to do about storing it either let alone being able to recall it when I want to.
I just feel so very stupid right now as I really don't know what I'm doing with it - the screen display is very "pretty" and colourful though!

Its a great app its just initial getting started thats more difficult. Just remember, it wont break and you cannot really break anything. Just get the app and slowly try things. Once whatsapp is up and running you will love it. We have a family one which is keeping us connected. Im always talking to my son in New York and we can have a video call anytime, even when I am in the fields in the wilds of Norfolk. Use google on your laptop to say how di I get / connect and use whatsapp then follow the instructions with your phone. Google how tos will get you going.
I started to get into battery tools for their convenience when we were refurbishing my older boy's first flat - We gutted it completely back to bare walls and started over. I had a number of drill/drivers from the likes of Lidl/Aldi which didn't really stand up to the heavy use they were given - but, to their credit, the supermarkets simply replaced every one I took back. However, it got a bit "silly" so i splashed out on a Ryobi kit of 18 volt "one plus" drill and circular saw. the drill has been epic. It's not the newest Li-ion type, but is still going strong although the batteries are now staring to hold less charge. The circular saw just needs too much electricity. It works very well with it's super thin blade (which reduces energy consumption) but has very little duration before it flattens the battery. I've always had mains devices and I much prefer them except for the battery drill/driver which I find just so handy. I'd buy another Ryobi if this one packs in.

Thanks, I've noticed a few of those "how to videos" but just haven't yet had the time to really get stuck in. Excellent suggestion! The video calls will be nice as I'm close to my sister but, with her living in the US, very rarely get to see her.

Really after the first one or two you will laugh at yourself. Whatsapp has a camera shaped button. You just click, take a pic add a text message (or not) and press send. Look at your phone and look for pictures or gallery. All pictures automatically go to this app. Even incomng ones go there usually.
The phone is just a tiny lap top. If you look im the icon that my files or similar you can see the files directory . It looks like the file manager on the lap top. The phones icons are the same in practice as the ones on a lap top screen.I find it easier to manage my pictures this

Once you get whats app going on the phone, its a short move from using the bigger screen on a laptop to have the video call via a mobile. It does take a while for the old wheels to start turning, but when they do it really will make you wonder why it seemed so difficult.

Enough indeed. I've been up since about 07.30 and really need to go to the supermarket - Milk's just a dribble in the bottom of the container and I can't live without TEA! Can't delegate Mrs J to go either as she's away in Devon with her sister - who is a good 10 years older than us and somewhat ailing in health. Think I'll take Becky and go the long way round to enjoy some relaxing Panda bonding.
