What's made you grumpy today?

A few years back, boyfriend of woman next door removed the line of leylandii trees between us, and replaced with a 3' high fence. All discussed and agreed beforehand. Fence was adequate, but not well put together.
He left a while ago. Now a week or so ago, the fence started to lean a little at one post, and this weekend's wind now has it swinging back and forth. It will probably break before the wind abates, and I cannot see her next door doing anything about it.
Meanwhile, I've had to put the Doblo out on the road, to avoid it becoming a victim. Then next week, will need to organise a friend to come and replace the post.
I've got a couple of very dodgy fence posts too and I've been concerned about how they might fair with this weather. However, so far, although we've had some pretty heavy rain and, yesterday, it was so dark we had the lights on for a lot of the day, the high winds you folks are suffering further south haven't happened up here. In fact it's a dead calm out there just now with not even a leaf twitching on my Pieris bush in the front garden.

Pretty windy here all night, and still windy now, but not scary or damaging thankfully. Its calming slowly.

Peering at it from the window this morning, I think it might be that the post is loose in its hole, rather than rotted or broken, as it seems to be pivoting well.
Having been rocking back and forth all night, this morning one of the panels has detached from the next post, and the two-panel section, with loose post is now leaning into my drive. Had I not moved the Doblo, it would now be chaffing it nicely.

Part of my back garden fence is gone, but none of the fences are mine ha ha. IF THE FENCE STAYS DOWN ... Barney gets a new loo! It helps speedy repairs.. As the garden is 110m long Im glad its not mine. I have hedges on my land which help support fences in the wind so mostly they are ok. I spend too much time fettling them, but its a gesture of good will.

Well we certainly didn’t get away with it, here in sunny North Yorkshire, strong gusts and fairly steady winds…as well as all the torrential rain, which is still pouring! It doesn’t help that we’re on the tops. Luckily we got away with two ‘garden gate’ latches giving way on the glamping pods, cheap n nasty tack welds. However, the rain has undermined the farm track in places on the sloped bits, so that will be me and the digger out tomorrow pushing all the quarry waste and gravel back up the track!

We did a mandatory training course on modern day slavery at work today... Quite sad some of the situations people are in.

They quite clearly called out some business categories also where these things tend to happen. Certain takeaways, certain barber shops, certain beauty bars... quite a lot of them dotted around our city. And everywhere I go. Not good.

Not to justify and sort of prejudice or judgement, because obviously not all of those businesses will be related to such goings on. But one particular closed Subway became a barber shop and quite a few large young guys with poor eyebrow grooming tend to now congregate outside, staring out anybody rather aggressively that catch eyes with them, staring at passing women too rather untactfully. Quite a few blacked out Mercs (some new, some old) all badly parked all over the loading bay beside it too, it's funny that they all gravitate toward the same cars. It makes me uncomfortable that the traffic wardens feel too intimidated to ticket them how they'd ticket you or me. Makes me wonder why those guys act the way they do, the course (and the public awareness campaigns) do tend to insinuate that it's these things we overlook that might be linked to incidents of modern slavery.

Fine line isn't it between ignoring / not wanting to think the worst of people, versus also not wanting to ignore what someday could turn out to be 'obvious signs' that something was off and that you did nothing

I feel the need / pressure towards political correctness has been used to the advantage of some people.:(

Mrs.Cheest and I got our old people flu shot and Covid shots on Monday. I don't know if it was the combination of the two or a different Covid variant, but we both were knocked flat on our backsides Monday night. The worst I ever got from the flu shot was a sore arm. The Covid shot would give me the desire for a 90 minute nap, but that was it. I managed a little time in the garage but went back into the house just feeling lousy.

We were both out of it by 8:30 Monday night. I was extremely tired but didn't sleep worth a damn. Mrs.Cheest slept like a log. I didn't start feeling normal until about 5 pm yesterday. That is until I bumped my left arm on the backdoor. I about jumped out of my skin when that happened. Just about all good now, save for the achy arm. Just in time for the Arctic blast of cold weather heading our way tonight.

I recently had the Covid, Flue and Shingles vaccines all at separate times due to the way my surgery works with no side effects?
However my sisters both had the effects you describe from a different Covid vaccine to mine.
I had to have the Shingles one as after catching Covid a couple of years ago it made me develop Shingles due to having Chicken Pox as a child. Bl**dy chinese have a lot to answer for, but that will never happen.

Don't worry, they're in for a rough few years... They will pay for it - somehow. In the words of the great Iron Maiden:

"Whatever god you know
He knows you better than you believe
In your once and future grave
You'll fall endlessly deceived"

I'm by no means a conspiracy theorist, whatsoever - comical theories and concerning ones. But man, never in the history of man I'd imagine, have the conspiracy theorists been so correct, as it turns out.... C19... political stuff... social stuff... you name it, Like everybody else I rolled my eyes at some of the things these people came out with. Now we're reading report after report (be it scientific, news investigation etc) come out and verify things that were essentially branded 'misinformation', 'dangerous' and got you banned from social media, alienated from a social group etc. What a time to be alive!

Hope your lot and @Cheest feel better soon / do okay with it. My mum has developed severe speech issues amongst other health issues since getting a very early on and regular dose of the vaccine as a key-key worker.... Not able to work either. Someone whose health and lifestyle and I'd say 'stress' levels have been very steady her whole life. I got the vaccines too (two parts) and also wouldn't get it again. Maybe when I'm in my 60s. I'm pro-vaccine and all that, but regardless of what happens in the future, I'm not putting anything in my body that isn't proven. I feel stupid for having so much faith in the Covid vaccine but then I guess we believe what we want to believe amidst a very strange time for the world?

A niece of mines partner got it bad in early days, the treatment he received in a big London Hospital was so poor he ended up with bed sores you could put your hand in, he has still not fully recovered.

Not such great news today. Mrs J had a chest x ray two days ago - you may remember she had a very bad episode of pneumonia recently, got taken to hospital in ambulance which she seemed to have survived - Doctor rang this morning to say she's concerned that the x ray shows a shadow in the right lung and she wants her to start with more antibiotics immediately.

Teenage granddaughter arriving Monday and Mrs J's elderly and quite infirm sister (10 years older than us) arriving later in the week. I'm really not sure if we're up to it - Sister can be very "difficult" and highly opinionated. I have to really keep myself under control when she's around. Christmas? Bah humbug!

Makes you wonder what you have all done to deserve this?
In my case they say I must have been a right bast**d in my previous life.;););)

Glad to report Mrs j seems to be responding very well to the antibiotics. She can now take quite deep breaths without any pain and is visibly and emotionally much happier. She's very close to her sister and now she's here - arrived Thursday - I'm sure that's a factor. Only trouble is she tends to take her side rather than mine so I have to bite my tongue to keep the peace. Teenage granddaughter is driving me to distraction. I'm going round after her turning off all the lights she's leaving on, mopping up after her in the bathroom - anyone know why she has to have a lengthy shower every morning which uses up all the hot water? (my system is a gravity fed with hot water tank so not unlimited hot water). Most annoying of all though is that she seems to find it necessary to leave several glasses half full of water all around the house. What's that all about?

Major grump this morning though. Mrs J and her sister are going to the hairdresser to get their hair done, in fact they just left a moment ago - note to self, remember to compliment them on the hair when they return - So I thought i'd do a quick vehicle check before they go. Luckily I did this an hour or so ago because two of the tyres deflated through the valves as I removed the pressure gauge! The valve cores were jammed. Luckily I have a box of used but good valve cores so was able to substitute other cores and reinflate the tyres without any problem. When I'd finished I examined the two faulty cores with a magnifying glass and it can clearly be seen that they are coated in a deposit of some sort which is causing them to bind. What can this be I ask myself? Then, like a bolt from the blue, I had it. I always check if a valve is leaking after using a pressure guage by spitting on the end of my finger and wiping it across the top of the valve. If the core is leaking it blows bubbles. I think it's my spit that's done it! Becky is by far the oldest and longest owned car in the "family fleet" at this time and, as I check pressures around once a month, that must be a whole lot of dried up spit in her valves! Think I'll just stop spitting on the valves?

All teenagers are the same, lights, water and after the first bloom of puberty (wehn you had to literally force them to get a wash) you can NEVER get them out of the bathroom…wait until you can’t find any plates and bowls, undoubtedly they’ll be all under the bed. Oh and don’t forget my absolute favourite, you have to fight them to put their dirty laundry in the clothes bin and, wehn you’ve freshly laundered them, they put them straight in the dirty laundry as they can’t be arsed hanging them up!

Good to hear Mrs J is on the mend..

Re. The valves surely just "save" it for a suspect valve.

Since I've started driving in 2002 I've had one leaking valve, I'd probably just stick to the pressure gauge unless it's actually lost air and has no obvious damage.
