What's made you grumpy today?

Mrs.Cheest and I got our old people flu shot and Covid shots on Monday. I don't know if it was the combination of the two or a different Covid variant, but we both were knocked flat on our backsides Monday night. The worst I ever got from the flu shot was a sore arm. The Covid shot would give me the desire for a 90 minute nap, but that was it. I managed a little time in the garage but went back into the house just feeling lousy.

We were both out of it by 8:30 Monday night. I was extremely tired but didn't sleep worth a damn. Mrs.Cheest slept like a log. I didn't start feeling normal until about 5 pm yesterday. That is until I bumped my left arm on the backdoor. I about jumped out of my skin when that happened. Just about all good now, save for the achy arm. Just in time for the Arctic blast of cold weather heading our way tonight.
I found this years had more reaction than previous too, but mune was a very sore arm for a month. I understand if you react its a sign you immune system has been jolted into superdirve and that although unpleasant its a good sign. Surely worth getting teh protection that is on offer though as we get older. I hope you are back to normal by Christmas.

Not such great news today. Mrs J had a chest x ray two days ago - you may remember she had a very bad episode of pneumonia recently, got taken to hospital in ambulance which she seemed to have survived - Doctor rang this morning to say she's concerned that the x ray shows a shadow in the right lung and she wants her to start with more antibiotics immediately.

Teenage granddaughter arriving Monday and Mrs J's elderly and quite infirm sister (10 years older than us) arriving later in the week. I'm really not sure if we're up to it - Sister can be very "difficult" and highly opinionated. I have to really keep myself under control when she's around. Christmas? Bah humbug!
Oh deers. Im sorry to hear Mrs J is still battling. Winter is just not a good time for respiratory ailments. At least she is being monitored. It really shows how anti biotics struggle to function these days. The situation is really not good and due to various factors not enough investment is being made into development of new medicines. We are just having daughters this year, which is uisual and Im not sorry its a pretty quiet affair.

My daughter in Mnacherster has raw sewage coming out of her surface water drain next to her front door. You cannot enter the house by the front door without having walked through it United Utilities is the Water Company and they said 10 days to deal with it! This is totally unacceptable as far as I am concerned, I nearly blew a fuse when I heard this! Anyway she rang them back today and asked them to review her complaint, and they have increased the urgency and hope to be there tomorrow. Im worried that it will /has run through the foundations and pool under the floor which is boards. We had and sorted out trouble ay the other end of the house with rainwater pooling under the floor when she bought the house. It seems I am going to have to pay UU a visit with the regulations in hand to discuss responsibilities and liabilities. Under common law, you are entitled to take whatever action is required to prevent flooding from adjoining properties. I may need to explain to them what this might involve in terms of the costs which we will pass to them. The house has been renovated and it will not be cheap to remove contaminated soil from under the floor boards and then repair the disruption damage. You try putting rainwater down a foul sewer or effluent down a surface water drain these days just see what threats the water companies make. It seems one law for them and another for us. Unfortunately the drains are old and need substantial works which they are not prepared to make. Too busy handing out dividends. What a good system this privatisation is.

Filled the Toyota up the other day, since then my wife has done 17 miles in it. The trip computer is showing 31mpg...

Drove a round trip today, it informs me that despite it being 3 degrees I did 43.5mpg on the downhill leg and 41 mpg on the up hill leg.. bringing the average to just over 37mpg.

I would love to know how orange the bonnet of the car is glowing while she's achieving 31mpg..

One day suggest a higher gear, if you fancy a divorce;)
I often find my daughters in 4th gear instead of 5th and totally screwed with a six speed box.
Years ago we had a customer whose wife drove their column gear change Vauxhall Victor to Birmingham up the Motorway believing it was three speed.;)

I tried some time ago...all I learned that day was that apparently I'm a worse driver and need to be quiet.

This particular car it's more of an issue as high rpm its on the Otto cycle low RPM it uses the more efficient Atkinson cycle so not only is not efficient...it's double not efficient.

Bet my battery is in lovely nick though..I miss the diesel..the sound of hammering made her change up.

Of course to balance this out now I'm the one doing the miles on the C3 mainly fuel economy in winter with the lights and heater on has gone to mid 40s.

How about one of those EV imitation real engine noises running through the sound system, preferably 1960s F1.;)

You really wouldnt lol

We would need a OT of rain to clean this lot.. They are caked!

I felt bad for the Toyota so it got a wash today...the C3 is only doing about 350 miles a month now so stays surprisingly clean. In terms of cake I mainly cleaned that off the passenger seat...or perhaps it was the remains of a gingerbread man.

That and the snow overnight had already started the washing process as when it melts and slides off it tends to take a lot of the salt with it and muck with it.

One day I shall have my own car, in its own garage, I will be the only one insured on it and perhaps it will even be secret so no body is gonna turn up drive it on the rev limiter and fill it with mud and food...except me.

We are done getting the house ready for Christmas with 16 hours to spare.
As it is just our oldest with her family along with my Dad and sister next weekend, I'll never know why it was a-holes and elbows to get the place to sparkle. The dog cares even less than I do. But as that is now finished, we both can sit back and relax with a fire going in the fireplace.

It's about thirty eff degrees warmer than yesterday but with the cloud cover and breeze, it seems to have more of a chill in the air than yesterday.

I bought my Bravo 6 weeks ago, took 4 weeks to sort out the stalling issue, so I've been finally enjoying driving it around for 1-2 weeks...until my neighbour called me today at 6pm to let me know, some f***ing pos hit the side of my car :mad:

I'm well pissed off, and of course no insurance details were left. There's marks from top of fuel tank cover, to the front indicator, scratching the side skirt, handle bars, rear view mirror, and of course the huge middle section. Apart from the white paint and smaller scratches, there's a 40cm/15" long dent in the rear door panel, around 4mm/ 0.15" deep.

I've spent an hour in the dark trying to remove the white marks, I've scrubbed off as much as I could, but I'll face the real damage tomorrow morning...
I do not like parking on the street, but my gate hinge is broken, and I thought it'll be fine for a few weeks until I find someone to fix it, especially I live on a quite street. Unfortunately it wasn't.

Gutted for you, my commiserations. This is a big problem around us because when ever there's a big funeral people who are late for the service crowd into our street - most of the other streets around us are yellow lined - and just abandon their cars anywhere they can find. So parked across residents driveways, on corners, etc, etc. The problem then becomes that for the following hour, or more if people go to the nearby hotel where the receptions are often held, Delivery vans, refuse collection etc, etc, can't get access. Or, if they try, it often ends in tears.

Just a thought, any neighbours got security cameras on the front of their houses? My next door neighbour has one which covers from his house to the corner at the end of the road. Unfortunately we're the other side of him so no use for us.

Thanks mate, unfortunately no cameras as front neighbour a 100 yards down the road, I've a door cam in box but I was waiting for new year to set it up, serves me right :( . There's 9 cars on that road and only mine got damaged, I assume that pos wanted to turn around but it's a one-way street, so there's not exactly enough room.

I've spent an hour in the dark cleaning it up and a bit today as well, this is what it looks now:

I'm not happy at all, no surprise there, the only thing is at the least the rest of the panels didn't seem to take any visible damage.
A new door is around £300-ish, I'll leave it for now as see if I can buff it out more.

The gate cam if going up for sure, and I'll find someone to fix the gate hinges asap.
I didn't like it before, but I definitely won't park outside anymore. Goes to show, you gotta fix things when they don't feel right.

I reckon one of those mobile dent removers could easily tackle that. Had one that managed to get a dent out, that went through the swage line near the bottom of the door, you really wouldn’t know it

Exactly what was going through my mind.

Sy, You've done an ace job of cleaning that up, well done! Don't know if "Smart Mobile dent Repairs" operate in your part of the world, but if they do then I think this is exactly the sort of job they thrive on.
