That's why I'm starting to prefer older cars. No electrical s***e to contend with.

I await with interest to see how vws reputation for "reliability" survives the mk7 golf once they are out of warranty. So much interconnected nonsense to go wrong...all controlled by one screen which controls everything on high spec models, then add a dual clutch gearbox which I believe are still only for sale as complete units, and a diesel engine with a dpf and dmf....

Exactly, hence why I'm going Jap - 5 year 100k Warranty FTW :slayer:

Jap warranties are awesome....so much work...so few bills...happy times.

Not like your average European manufacturer where if it goes wrong after year 1 you've got roughly the same odds of a free of charge repair as you have of winning the lottery.

My girlfriends family is driving me crazy. What is it with some working class families that they have to believe their experts at everything and its.there job to enlighten you. Cars are a particular problem. I had one working class hero trying to convince me the oil in my carburetor needed topping up. Maybe so on a dashpot SU in a metro but not on the Lancias Weber.

How many recalls have Toyota issued in the last few years?

Toyota recall cars when problems are identified, for example when electric racks on the yaris failed in a small number of cars, all cars possibly afflicted were recalled for new steering control units. Fiats solution to a similar issue, mass produce the faulty parts for 10 years and counting and charge people to replace them.

So are you here because you like Fiats or just to promote Japanese cars? and just for the record Toyota have recalled over eight million cars in the last five years as opposed to just over 26000 Fiats in the same interval......the figures speak for themselves.

Column A, however the main reason Toyota has recalled so many cars is that it is very proactive with recalls far more so than other manufacturers. Denying known issues unless you absolutely have to and stealthily issuing service bulletins instead of recalls is the industry standard.

Not that Toyota have made any cars recently I'd want, although I wouldn't mind a supra twin turbo.

Not sure i understand your reasoning there, i think i'd rather buy cars that don't keep needing to be recalled.

It's more the fact that recalls are pretty much voluntary. Yes it would be preferable if the car was right first time, but if it does have an issue it's preferable that the manufacturer takes steps to inform those affected and fix it free of charge. A lack of recalls is not indicator that a car is not riddled with design faults, it just means that if there are known faults the manufacturer has chosen not to recall the car to fix them.

I can damn guarantee there should be a hell of a lot more recalls from fiat

Lets be honest i think every single grand punto should have recall for water in footwell issue
