terriers shake as a matter of instinct to kill things, they are too small to take something down or have that really strong bite of something bigger but they can snap a neck or spine with a good shake and bash it on the floor a few times.

Also dogs instinctually go for the throat, and a lucky strike even from a small dog can open a vein or artery in the neck and its game over.
In the wild and in packs female dogs will lay over the throats of their males if threatened to try to protect them against aggressors, one of my dogs does this, she will try and sit up on your chest, and if she can lay over your neck when you're just sat watching TV.
Wow! I have never heard that.
Are you sure she just doesn't like your choice of program:)

No one has ever been maulled to death by a dachund or or any other small dog.
Well no, but my Mum had two corgis for a while - she had delusions of grandeur - which were always biting us kids. One of them mauled my ankles so badly I had to go to the hospital! Mum always said it was our fault. In fact her opinion was that it was always the person's fault for provoking or making the animal nervous! Some breeds do seem to be much safer than others, Labrabors, Spaniels, and the like. I remember her Collie spent all it's time trying to "herd" us when we were quite small.

My mum's 'partner' had two border collies. By far one of the smartest dogs I've seen, and the other was, well, let's call him simple. The dumb one was a rescue pedigree, abused most of his first 4 or 5 years, and just wanted to be loved and petted. Just come up to anyone and put his head by your leg. But my god was he dumb, when parking he'd stand and watch, the car could go right up to his nose and he'd still just stand there. Get excited when you held a ball, throw it and he'd just look at you.

The smart one, as soon as you threw the ball (never fell of the kid on throw), he was off like a rocket to where it would land before it got there. Or at night, pitch black where they stay, you'd say "get the ball" and he's disappear into the darkness of the garden and re-appear with a ball to play with.

We never knew the full history of them, but the dumb one was always go flank the smart one when he wandered off. We can only think that was left over training from herding days. Though just cant see how anyone could train the dumb one, nice as he was.

My Mum had a dog like that, it was a very pampered Yorkshire terrier which was always sat on mums lap, if anyone when near mum it would snarl and snap. of course I recognize now that this dog basically put itself above the rest of us in the pecking order because of the way it was treated. I still bare scars from being bitten by it, once in the face from when I was very young, you were lucky I never got taken to a doctor or hospital, these days the dog would have been put down, it had serious aggression problems and when it went to bite it intended to cause damage.

Our Jack/Chihuahua cross, is a bit snappy bit it never intends to harm, more to warn, you can literally put your fingers in her mouth when she is really unhappy and she would not bite properly (not me at least).

Generally if she is unhappy she just goes out of the way, as she is getting older she will take herself off to another room or her bed. and finally her teeth have started falling out. so it won't be long before the worst you would get is a serious gumming.

Not necessarily, there's some odd law about dogs attacking in their own home are protected in some way.
There have been a few serious attacks on children up here and the dogs weren't put down because they attacked children within their home. One local to us had to move home because the abuse she got from the neighbours about keeping the dog after it attacked children.

well if could not get worse. 11-30ish last night funny noise in the kitchen sheba the dog had had a heart attack and has died what with the wife having lost her memory and now the dog who saved her life in the first place.what next only good thing the panda keeps me going 63mile round trip to see her thats life mowermender70
Woke this morning quite early and could hear Mrs J still asleep in the front bedroom - I sleep in the spare - so decided to get up and attempt a shower on my own. Took me a while getting in and out of the bath but the actual showering went well and I didn't even stumble - can't reach to wash between my toes yet though and it's all quite sore, in a bruised sort of way, when washing in the "Nooks and Crannies". Got dried and dressed with the help of my litter picker and decided to try making a cup of tea for Mrs J to have in bed with a ginger biscuit (this is what I do most days but haven't been able to do it since the hip was done 10 days ago now.) All went well although climbing the stairs without spilling the tea was a bit of a challenge. Then it all went south. Mrs J, with bed covers up to her chin and looking "poorly" and very short of breath. Hacking and coughing when trying to speak to me. Right! rang the doc but no appointments - well, what a surprise! so played the trump card "Look I'm very concerned, she's definitely having problems breathing properly!" I know from past experience that tends to concentrate their thoughts and they asked to speak to her. Mrs J gave a suitably croaky coughing choking performance and was invited in a.s.a.p. to the surgery. To cut a long story short, diagnosed with PNEUMONIA! and given steroid and penicillin pills - I think? Lots of pills anyway - and told to go home and do steam inhalation! Last time she had pneumonia it almost finished her so you can imagine I'm really worried. Not in the least reassured that I've been told to keep an eye on her and if she becomes poorly in the night I've to ring 999 and get her into hospital!

She decided not to go back to bed as sitting up makes the breathing easier so I've fed her pills until she rattles and made her a cup of tea - she's had 2 actually which is good as she's to keep well hydrated - and an Almond Finger and got her settled in front of the TV watching the Gaelic singing MOD being braodcast from Oban on BBC Alba TV. Not really my cup of tea I must admit but we watch it as a very good friend's son conducts one of the quires - in fact it looks like his quire won their section! Anyway, enough is enough so I've just taken my walk (maybe better described as limp?) round the block to exercise the hip. Must say all going pretty well on the hip front. Still uncomfortable most of the time and keeping me awake at night but the real pain is pretty much gone now unless I try to do something stupid. Still on the milder pain killers and anticoagulant injections (self administered - ouch!) Bumped into my friend and another two of the neighbours I know well about half way round and got my leg "sensitively" pulled which has cheered me up quite a bit. I know I'll not sleep well tonight because of the discomfort but I'm dreading listening out for Mrs J. Ok if she's snoring but when she's quiet - and I'm half deaf - I'll be wondering "is she? isn't she? should I give her a shake? - It's going to be a long night I fear. I'm feeling I must have done something really terrible in the distant past and forgotten about it to be being subject to this now?

@mowermender70 I'll be thinking of you in the wee small hours.

yes Sir. You do that. Your wife would want this for sure and Im certain we do too. Life is often brutally unfair and it must be very hard. Try and keep things together and I trust there will be more good things ahead Although its difficult to see the wood for the trees those of us, of a similar age truly understand and wish you well.

Perhaps of interest? Late on this afternoon, long after Mrs J got home from the doctor, phone call from the surgery instructing us - both of us - not to go for our covid/flue injections on Monday even if we felt we could physically manage to get there. Mrs J asked the girl why (I don't think she's going to be in any fit state so it's all a bit academic and it'll be uncomfortable for me what with the walk from the multistorey car park to the facility and then back again) but we're non the wiser because the girl at the doctor's surgery couldn't explain just saying she'd been asked by the doctor, who was with another patient, to contact us with the instruction.

I had another scam phone a few days ago and as it was a human I gave then both barrels, I said "I have enough grief in my life with f**king ar*eholes like you trying to take my money, so f*** off!
I am sure it will continue, but it at least gave me a few moments satisfaction:)

Our broadband and landline are with SKY and they gave us their call blocker for free as part of my negotiations at renewal time. Previously we'd had BT's call blocker which was pretty useless. Since we've had the SKY blocker, about 9 months now, we've really not had a single scam call! I don't think they can be bothered with answering the questions you have to to get connected.

Must be my lucky day, just had an Asian woman claiming to be from Microsoft, so I said "you must be a good liar and then blocked her"!
I did say in the past to one "Does your family know you lie for a living?"

Start asking for their second name, and address, they usually annoys them.

True, but I don't want to spend the rest of my life talking to these ******s
There was also something about using parts of a conversation they record to cause you other problems.
I second that, these days it just seems like its a fact of life we have to put up with, so I just hang up on them.
I have zero time to be dealing with them.

There have been times they have made outrageous claims "we are calling from microsoft and your computer has a virus" oh does it, well to confirm this you can tell me the IP address of my computer, the computer name and the type of computer I have then I will believe you. They usually then just hang up.
Generally I just claim what ever they say is wrong. " I am calling from Sky" weird I don't have anything from Sky. "we are calling about you computer" Oh I own a mac. "we are calling from .... bank" weird I don't use that bank. The more they think their information is wrong the less likely they are to keep calling, even scammers want to be productively calling people they can scam, they don't want to waste time calling people on wrong information.

My eldest brother, on the other hand who is a human behaviorist (police officer/educator currently doing a PHD in human behavior), loves to engage with people like Chuggers, scammers and people who try to sign you up for religious or pollical parties in the street or knock on your door, many a time he has been late for a coffee because he got talking to a "communist party campaigner and thought he would stop and see what they know about what they are trying to preach.

He likes to have a lot of fun messing with these people.
