i didn't think mk2's had the red key system unless im completely confused
Im not too sure, ive done some google research and apparently some mk2s do but only the early ones but this is an 02 model so im guessing it doesnt. But if the ecu decides to mess up and i need it recoding what would happen then?

Noticed my driving licence is due for renewal in October.

Went to have a look how much it costs... £20

It does NOT cost that much to print a new card and post it to me, especially if I do it online so I'm (indirectly) entering all the new information into their computer myself - in which case the only humans involved in the process are likely to be myself and the postman.

Arses.

It cost me $120 Aussie to get a 10yr licence. I see it as paying for a privelidge, and privelidges sometimes cost money. I deal with it.

Whats making you have a driving license? Its your choice to have one at the end of the day.

I was just saying £20 is way more than they need to charge for a renewal, not even a new licence with ID checks, etc. Just updating the photo stored on their DB and sending me a new card. I don't mind paying a bit, I realise there are costs involved but £20 is excessive.

bludvl_x19, fair enough, ~£80 is truly taking the p**s and making £20 seem like nothing.

Keir, I'm sure it used to be free or £12.50 or something around that when I started driving (for a renewal OR new licence), which seemed reasonable, especially considering they had to enter all my details, check my ID against a birth certificate, etc when I first had my licence.

it was free to surrender your paper licence and upgrade to a photo licence

Heh, that's another thing, my parent's paper licences are older than I am and would be falling to bits were it not for the little plastic wallet they came in. Yet because they haven't got a photo, they are still valid until they die (unless the DVLA change their mind and force photocards on everyone).

That bit isn't a complaint, at least they are getting their value for money (y)
