Hi!!!:D could ya share ur opinions on what size tyres to put on my 5.5j 13s for better handling on my sei cheerz :D

Which Sei is it?

If you've not got an anti roll bar, fit one first. If it's not lowered, do that next, then you can usefully look at tyres.

To be honest, I don't think tyres do much -- if anything -- for handling per se on Seis, more for grip. 185 is the widest you can sensibly go to on a 5.5J, wider will have a bad effect on handling.

Anything over 165 is probably wasted on a 900.;)

hi its a 98' sporting no anti roll as yet was planning on lowering after the wheelz  ?? i'd like as wide as i can really so u think 195's yeah?

ok i'll do that when i get more free time :) thanx for ur advice(y)

175's 50 13s on the original rim is the best compromise, sadly you no longer get bridgestones so Continentals are your best bet.

ok thank you:) i'm sure i read somewhere that wider tyres would improve handling  and i sure think they look better:p

Getting decent softer compound tyres with a well designed tread pattern will make a difference too, depending on the tyres you're going between it may even be more than going 2cm wider on the tread and could increase the quality of the ride too (cheaper tyres tend to have a harder quality to them).

Wider flat tread will, most of the time, give better handling with the same tyre type (ie Pirelli P5000), however if you go too wide the tyre deforms and becomes bowed, this gives an effect smiler to over-presureised tyres. 5.5J is right on the narrow end of Toyo's recommended rim width for 195 tyres so I'd be looking at 6.5 or 7.0J rims.

if you go for anything bigger than 175 it gets a bit doge in the wet ;)

:D Cheerz SN thas exactly the sort of info i was after!!!:D cinqing-i have the standard 165's n its for sure dodge in the wet as it is:confused: hopin it cant get much worse lol cheerz guys:)

Wet handing is EXTREMLY tread determined, a good tread that can disperse a lot of water will give good wet handling, if the tyre can't disperse the water then you've got big problems. However besides word of mouth on your target car I know of no way to get real wet weather information about tyres, it is also worth mentioning that handling characteristics of tyres can be a car dependent thing.

175/50 are widely regarded as the optimum for 5.5x13s :) Though I run the original size of 165/55s with no problems whatsoever :)

There is also the issue that after a certain speed even the best tyre loses grip, I only managed about ten or fifteen MPH in cornering with the Bridgestones and Conti's over the Nankangs, you can't just go any speed.

Isn't that called common sense bloomfieldliam? I mean there's different levels of wet etc. When it's hot like this I can throw the punto through a particular corner at 45mph and still have almost no under-steer with the throttle open, at lower temps like 10C you're talking 35mph before you can get on the throttle.

Yeah but no offence to anyone in this thread but sometimes common sense doesn't apply to some people, if you thought you'd seen it all just hang around a while longer!
