Hi guys I've had my SEI over a year now and it's time to get some power into her! I want over 100 bhp so was thinking a 1.4t (punto gt turbo) but seems they can be hard to come by so maybe 1.4 16v? Basically what's the best options out there and what would the overall cost be?
Any suggestion welcome...

If you want 100hp, you can get that without much of a faff (tuning wise) with a 1.4 16v. Fingers99's link has a very good guide that can also be applied also to the 1.2 16v swap for some useful information, and it has an all-important parts list!

Generally, if you do a good search through the forums you'll find plenty of project threads from people who have turbo'd the 1.1, the 1.2 16v swap and the 1.4 16v swap.

If you're up for something new and you want a turbo, you could try turbo'ing the 1.4 16v, but seeing as only the polski's have really done it, you'll be short on resources.

See here for plenty of useful links:

Yes, but Craig turboed 1.2 16V. Even in PL I think nobody attempted 1.4 16V. Tjet is of course a different story.

I'm currently in the process of turboing my 1.4 16v. At the moment the internals are finished, and the engine is back in for now. I'm back down in Spain from Friday for 3 weeks, so hopefully will have the new manifold and turbo fitted, and then look at fitment of the rad and intercooler. Don't imagine it will be finished until late next year...still a shed load of work to do....I want it to last until I die for the amount of money its costing :( In answer to the OP....imo the easiest route is a 1.4 16v conversion....its not far off 100hp as standard, and with some work well above that mark....plus its the most fun car I've ever driven. Its one thing to drive a fast car....its a world apart driving a fast cento :D

I think with the GP engine you have similar obstacles as with the 1.4 16v, but they're essentially the same IIRC.

The PGT is a completely different engine to the FIRE. You'll need the engine, gearbox, cables, custom engine mounts, frame modifications, probably custom drive shafts..........

It's been done, but..........

Can Emerald ECU's run VVT?

Then again, why **** about with standalone when you can save money and use the 1.2 16v engine + ECU ;)

The new ones can handle some VVT. But the stuff on the 1.4 16v doesn't appear to do anything to performance. Just a matter of blanking off one oil hole. But the Stilo/Idea lump doesn't have it.

Standalone (although you'd be nuts to go for something as expensive as the new Emerald) will generally give you an extra 10 - 15bhp or so. No need for anything more expensive than Canems (etc.) (or even Microsquirt/Megasquirt).

my advice is read as many of the big build threads in here you can... And consider what you want the car for in the end, a turbo'd 1108 8v can make over 100bhp easy and i can vouch for their amusement factor. But compared to a 16v conversion with few goodies you are looking a alot more dosh for fuel and servicing costs etc.

Thanks blu, I have thought about turboing the 1108 but aren't forged internals hard to come by?
