Well done - it's beginning to look like the stripped-out racer you wanted all along!

I always thought the Uno Turbo was fast enough and noisy enough as standard. I'm trying to imagine it without any of the soundproofing or trim, and with an extra 100-odd horsepower. It's going to be wild!

You should give up on the idea of the 'Saff Cossie' - why would you need it?!

We haven't seen any engine parts or dissection yet... how's that going? ;)

Re: UT Restoration, New Thread, NEW SHELL!!!!! *updated 10/02/06*

Saff cossies are more bling then anything else, I always wanted a uber factory looking mountune cossie, but they go for stupid money and within a week of having my 2.3l volvo on carbs I am already feeling the pinch on big cars with thirsty engines. Hence why I want to do something tiny with a big engine or highly tuned small NA, or unoT engine etc.

You have the right idea mate, thats what i said to him ages ago! Dont get a ford cossie, they just dont compare in style, build and they manage to rust even worse than the old Uno's  They are ford, pure poo!!!!!!!

Re: UT Restoration, New Thread, NEW SHELL!!!!! *updated 10/02/06*

right, only just updating this as ive been busy, but this is what i did on sunday :D

took the cover off, front bumper and grill and fitted my headlights as to strat working out how my intercooler is going to fit/mount etc.

12022006026.jpg

after a few mins thought, i realised i needed to hack off part of the out lets on the intercooler, these will have to be re welded on at an angle pointing down.

12022006027.jpg

i then went back to the uno, and chcked up the intercooler using paint tins and my angle grinder box lmao :D

pretty big huh! it was now i realised how big it is lol

12022006028.jpg

here u can see why i have to get the outlets welded back on angled down

12022006030.jpg

also, ive worked out how to use the original rs500 cossie mounting points, just need to make some home made brackets :D

12022006035.jpg

afterwards, i tried mounting the bumper and started hacking some more of it away to get it to fit. i could only get so far then realised i needed to mount the intercooler properly before i could carry on with the bumper. so brackets will be made this week. i took a photo to give u an idea of what it'll look like :D un fortunatly, i dont think the grill will fit lol, never mind!

12022006033.jpg

started packing away, so put the bumper back on, grill and thought id take another pic being as it looks like a UT again lol!

12022006038.jpg

well, hopefully more updates soon on the intercooler brackets and getting it mounted!

Re: UT Restoration, New Thread, NEW SHELL!!!!! *updated 10/02/06*

ghost, there will be some lag issues, but theres always ways around this. keep it in high revs (with i find easy to do :D ) or just sit back and wait, as it boosts up and takes ur head off in one blow :D

louie, i hope ur still on about the intercooler there ;) lol

charlie, u know it ;)

last nite i went down to the car and started making my brackets for my intercooler, prooving a little trickier than i first thought but nothing i cant sort :D

will get pics up later

Re: UT Restoration, New Thread, NEW SHELL!!!!! *updated 10/02/06*

Chris, the intercooler itself wont create lag, it will be the turbo that does that.

i think Ghosts comment was based around the size of Dunc's F**KIN mahoosive intercooler, meaning it should be pushing a fair few ponies and needing a lot of cooling power. think of it in comparison to te size of the turbo for basic idea, the bugger the tubby, the more cooling it needs

should be Fun Dunc, the cooler looks nuts just proped behind the bumper, will give people something to think about when they see it for the whole .73 seconds in their rearview mirror! :yum:

Lol.

Might need:
nbracebig.jpg

:D
put a warning sticker on the dash.

"Arse + Seat + 300 flbs of torque = Head will become heavy during foot-to-floor-action!!" (y)

Good progress mate, i thort the same thing when my 1st turbo went to the scrappers!!
But as you say, makes way for somthing better.

Wrong, a bigger intercooler makes more lag, as Custard rightly said its to do with the volume of air the turbo has to shift before it can spin up.

I read some very interesting reports from a guy in South Africa with an integrale who fabricates intercoolers and while using his mates rolling road and temp sensors everywhere to measure intake temps etc to make the best intercooler, but with out loosing drivability.

He was running about 375bhp and with an ambient temp of 30'c he achieved an intake temp of 20'c with a cooler half the size Dunc has used, he found that doubling in size only lowered the temp by 1'c but the the turbo took 300rpm higher to spin up, therefore any extra power achieved by lower intake was lost in the lag.

I know the standard intercooler on my 'grale is about a third the size of Duncs but mine is a homologation model and has water spray so the intercooler gets cold water sprayed on it as soon as you hit 0.8bar of boost.

Aaron.

Re: UT Restoration, New Thread, NEW SHELL!!!!! *updated 10/02/06*

dunc ... radom thought but nowhere to get the number plate unless you have a square on one one side...

....this mean you gonna get a sticker one on the bonnet? or tey fit that motorbike like one you had on in the OE place?

Re: UT Restoration, New Thread, NEW SHELL!!!!! *updated 10/02/06*

thanks for all the replys peeps :) appretiate it

custard boy answered the lag issue, as did aaron with his usual quality detail :)
i gotta admit, the intercooler is a "little" OTT but, what the hell, it looks the ****** lmao :D

cheers andy, yeah it should be fun, cant wait to get out in it and see what its like again! LOL @ .73 sec comment :D

biz, u know it, its gonna be awesome when it comes on boost, and the neck brace may come in handy lol :D

aaron, i always enjoy reading your comments, u always make very good points and good info too :) keep it up man!

charlie, if u look at the pic of the bumper infront of the intercooler, theres a little black bracket, thats where the plate was last time and hopefully i will be able to use this again, but the number plate issue is the least of my worries lol! but it is DEFFINATLY NOT going to be a square one stuck either on the left or the right of the bumper as they look totally $hit and should be left to evos! one of my pet hates is when peeps do that! ahhhhh! lol

cheers for all ur comments peeps, will be working on it all weekend so hopefully more progress will be made :)

Re: UT Restoration, New Thread, NEW SHELL!!!!! *updated 10/02/06*

Hey no worries Dunc always willing to give input from what i have found, and yes it does look fecking ace!

As for eth number plate issue, i kow of many a 'grale owner running wit no fornt number plates and never getting any problesm with them, or the stick on kind as well on front of bonnet. There is an issue of the bonnet not showing the plate at correct angle, but i know of not one 'grale owner ever having problems MOT time or from the local constabulary!

PS rememebr those rear UT callipers, brackets and hubs for me (y)
