Yeah sorry I should have said TwinAir with no options (ie incl. plastic steering wheel). The one we test drove was the TwinAir, but with leather wheel and Blue & Me and was fine for what we need it for.

Just to clarify the options that are available...

1.2 Pop £9,900
TA Pop £11,100 NO NEW ORDERS
1.2 Lounge £11,300
1.2 Sport £11,300 NO NEW ORDERS
Twin Air £11,600
TA Lounge £12,700

The 'Twin Air' model is a particular spec and engine type which comes with B&Me (incl. Lthr steering wheel), 15 inch black 'wavey' alloys & Sports seats. You can't de-spec any of these standard fit items to save money. It is priced at £500 over the original Pop TA and if you are happy with the sporty spec incl. the black alloys it's good value for money.

Thanks that's really helpful.

The spec you describe above is exactly what I test drove today and what I want - but the salesman told me you couldn't get the black alloys anymore and the leather wheel + B&M was an option. Doh!

I'll get it sorted in the morning, but I'm more hopeful of getting the lovely (though definitely less economical than the official figures) engine and decent wheel. Thanks once again!

If you're considering a standard 1.2 but have only test driven the TA make sure you a test drive in a 1.2 before you decide :)

And you might find it handy to check out the fiat website for the spec of the car you are interested in. I was under the impression that the Twinair basic spec doesn't come with Blue&Me or the leather steering wheel. I just checked the website to double check this and they are options so not standard with the car.

Where are you? My local dealer has a red TA/TA with black allows and leather steering wheel in their showroom. I wasn't so fussed about the 'satin' finish mirrors and door handles though, TBH.

Well I took the easy way out. Bought the twin air lounge in red with rubbing strips in the end. It's a stock car so we get it later this week.

Now me and the wife get to battle over who drives it! Thanks to all for advice, and I'll be sure to get some pictures up ASAP.

Flojo is correct about this. I checked back on an older thread and the B&Me only came standard on the Twin Air Plus. The extra of the B&Me and the lthr wheel is £265 + £105.

So if I've read this right, you can't buy a new TwinAir with 14" steel wheels:mad:. And this is supposed to be a hyper fuel-efficient car?:confused:.

Wonder what wheels they had on it when they did the testing to get the 'official' figures??

well the TA has broken through the 3,000 miles barrier and mpg is around 40 mark at moment, the car is spending of its life at 70mph given my commute and its started to improve (slowly), still at 40mpg it pays for itself

worst i've got was 29mpg on a spirited trip home when i gave it a proper drive

when i'm back from hols its booked into dealers for a check up as there is a slight wiff of un burnt fuel every now and again and driving it like a saint isn't producing great figures

Haha, nice effort! I'm not actually sure I could get down to 29mpg in the 1.2 even if I tried, so congrats on that!(y)

Glad you're enjoying the car though, fingers crossed all is well when you take it to the dealer.

I'd say you should have the dealer check your's out. I get high 40s mpg on a 70mph motorway run, and the worst I've acheived driving hard is around 40. If I drive gently I get low-mid 50s. Mine's just gone past 5000 miles btw.

i've had my suspicions so it will be in the dealers when i'm back from holiday

I've tried my regular commute ( a 23 mile mixture of in-town, country lane and dual carriageway) both with and without Eco the whole way, and found that my mpg was barely different if I drove at similar speeds for each. However, I've noticed that with Eco on, it pulls more smoothly from low rpm, so you can use a higher gear in town, which should help economy. With Eco on, I find it's quite comfortable at 30 in 4th, and will take 5th without vibration at just over, provided it's not uphill. With Eco off, 30 in 4th is marginal. I switch it off for open road driving, as I like the extra power and torque to be there if I need it. Typical mpg for the above journey is 50, that's with steady, but not slow, driving.

I agree 100% about pulling more smoothly in ECO. My MPG tends to hover around 42 on the speedo, as opposed to 48 on fuelly. The majority of driving is A and B roads with plenty of breaking and accelerating though. Dont really tend to use ECO unless I'm stuck in traffic.

cheers

I filled up with petrol today, and thought I'd reset the fuel guage and run ECO for the journey home. I got an indicated mpg of 57 when I pulled into my drive. Have to say I have never been anywhere near that reading before.

Just remember that if you reset your trip whilst the engine is warm then you will get good consumption because the engine will be warm. I got 72mpg on a 30 mile journey once because the engine was warm :)

Just got a best ever fuelly fill-up; 466 miles on 31.68 litres for 66.9 mpg. I love my 1.2 engine!

Scary! If you brimmed it you still had 10 litres in there. You'd be on for an almost 600 mile tank if you ran it low. I have NO chance of getting anywhere near that. I went from a 40 mile commute the week before last to a 5 mile commute this week. I think 59.2 is going to be the best I ever get.....

There's always holidays.:)

And I'd be the first to say that single-tankful figures should be taken with a large pinch of Sodium Chloride. More impressive is that the car's been consistently over the 60mpg line since May.
