General TwinAir Thread (including MPG)

Single tank fulls are still a good indication of what is possible.
However, when people talk about single journey's, that when I lose interest as they invariably rely on their trip meter which can be inaccurate and it doesn't take into account the fact that a one-way journey can be mainly down hill, or at least mpg friendly in one direction.

Exactly. I always say this to people. Whilst single trip figures are interesting, the fact that I got 72mpg on one trip after filling up part way through, yet have never had better than 59mpg over a tank says a lot. Just getting the engine up to temperature uses a lot of fuel.

I'm getting 46 mpg so far after 650 miles of quick motorway driving and pooling about town. Not that good I'll admit, but it's proving more economical to run, tax and insure than our old 120d m sport so it's a winner for me. Very pleased with the noise and general twinair experience so far.

Hoping to get about 48-50 once it's run in. We'll see!

I took a TwinAir for a test drive today (in the Netherlands) and aware of this discussion thread I checked the onboard average consumption. The car I drove was a TwinAir Lounge with 6k kms on the clock and the average consumption over the last 2.5k km recorded was equivalent to 28mpg! I raised this point with the salesman and he put this down to the way it has been driven given that it is used mostly for test drives. I must admit one of the aspects I tested was the cars performance.;)
He quoted 40mpg (6l/100km equivalent) as a more achievable figure. Not 5l/100km (47mpg) but only 6...
I also noted that at motorway speeds, with ECO switched on, I was seeing instantaneous figures equivalent to low 30s mpg.

I find I'm averaging around 42 which I find pretty good considering I tend not to hang around too much, and 99.9% of my driving is in the city (of London). Done just a few under 1500 miles now in my TA Lounge.

Damn you Google conversions. You convert to US gallons. So my figures are all wrong.
So, 6l/100km is 47mpg. still not official figures but more reasonable.
The figure from the computer was 34mpg
and the motorway closer to 40mpg.

I've just done a 2 week road trip from the UK into Germany with my Twinair. A total of 1445miles averaging 52.5MPG with an average speed of 45MPH. about 90% of the trip was at pretty constant speeds on the motorways between 60-75MPH. Two people on board with luggage. Had 2500miles on the clock before the trip. Not too bad overall, but considering the size of the car and it's relative weight that performance is a bit ****. Or am I expecting too much?

That sounds good, but you were driving very slow on the motorway. I guess if people go to Germany and top the car out they cant complain about economy. In essence, the twinair is an economical engine, but if you drive it hard dont expect much! Turbo style!

What were you driving before the TA. Performence is fine in fact great for such a car, we just did 2000 mile road trip around Europe no major complaints...

whats the most that someones got out of a twin air? i still cant believe the hype fiat gave, with 69. something MPG plastered all over their test cars, and people are only getting 35-40MPG.... i'm better off keeping my 545i V8 petrol as thats giving me at least 25MPG

dont make sense!!

.... I'm better off keeping my 545i V8 petrol as thats giving me at least MPG

You say that but also the car is not just about mpg ,its fun ,it has zero tax ,lower insurance esp compared to a v8 petrol, and your saving the planet with less emissions:)

No offence, but you'll have to be driving like a tit to be getting 35mpg. I struggle to get below 40 in general, because if I tried to drive it any faster, I'd be crashed into the car in front.

LOL thats funny, ur right i was driving like that because i felt like i was driving just like outrun trying to get to the next checkpoint (Shell Garage) fill up to continue lol.

that car was always begging for fuel.

Mines booked into the dealers tomorrow, whoop whoop at 40.9 today, also get a nice whiff of fuel so all not well, not holding out much from dealer, when the bloke on service reception is a smart ar&e experience has fought me they no jack sh&t

Hi wigit,

Where do you live? There may be others on here who can suggest alternatives to you.

Might be worth just going a few extra miles to another dealer. If a particular dealer is s*** then tell them to jog on!

It's not right but at the end of the day it is worth forking out a bit extra for petrol than dealing with incompetent numpties.

in reality i got a better vibe today, garage who have sense to book you a courtesy car for two days so they can order bits and fit them the next day if required (vw need to take note), so we will see what happens (there is another dealer close by), only fail is the metallic purple fiesta courtesy car with black and purple dash, 500 is way better car and feels so much better quality

Before my 500 I drove a Japanese import Honda Prelude 2.2 vtec with automatic gearbox. VERY different to drive, but at least now I can actually get 4 adults into the car :)

I think you have just won the coveted RobinPJ award for the most off topic/random posting of the day.

I have scrolled back and still cannot work out what triggered you to post this - please do let on as I am very curious...
