The technical specs arrived from fiat which has made my mind up that twin-air is the preferred option given the extra performance, love my 4 pot turbos given the economy, so looking forward to test driving one just debating to go sport or lounge, my calcs stack up as I had been more cautious than the 1.2 figures

I picked up my new TwinAir Lounge in central London.
It's much quicker than my previous 1.2 Lounge which usually returned around 50 plus mpg on a run regardless of driving style.
This weekend I embarked on my first longer trip. I drove across Central London in light traffic, in Eco Mode, paying attention to the suggested shift changes and using stop-start. Two up and with weekend bags etc.
As we turned off the M4 126 miles later the Average mpg was 64.3.
The return journey returned 65.2 mpg but traffic jams on the approach to London and all the way through Fulham and Chelsea dropped this to 60.2 at journey's end. Bear in mind that this car had less than 100 miles on the clock when we set out.
In short the TwinAir has two 'personalities'. If you drive in Normal Mode, in predominantly lower gears and revelling in the zest of this tiny engine you will have fun but you will not approach Fiat's mpg figures.
If you drive in Eco Mode with economy in mind and making use of stop-start in traffic you will still not achieve Fiat's claimed mpg but you can achieve 65 mpg on a run even with a 'tight' engine. It's up to you. I intend to enjoy both 'personalities' as the mood takes me and appreciate the option.

Chris, very nice to hear some more positive mpg figures for the TwinAir. I am beginnining to think that my car might just have been the problem. I was told when I picked it up that it had had a software update at the factory but perhaps it hadn't because no matter how carefully I drove it I was struggling to get half the combined figure Fiat quoted.
In contrast, the Abarth 500 on it's first fill up has averaged 33.5mpg which has been all town driving in Sport mode but it's Trip B data is showing closer to 40mpg as that included a nice drive into the country for a pub lunch when we first collected the car.
What makes your figures so good is that your engine is new and you have done a lot of urban motoring to boot.
Keep us posted as I think as you put on the miles and the weather gets warmer you might be the guy to beat.

True. But it would appear that I was right about the twinair economy.
My MPG since new (Jan) is 40 ish. But recent runs have seen a big improvement on individual journeys. One thing that does dent the figures though is a lot of motorway and dual carriageway use. I would have thought that town, urban driving a sustained figure of 50 mpg is reasonable.
I'm still not convinced that there is a 'software' glitch that has caused an issue.
I think the warmer wather may help also, I suprised no one has pointed that out so far....

Every fuel up that's been done with the car is on fuelly so I can keep proper track of it Latest fuel up was over 125 miles and was 56.6 mpg which I reckon is pretty decent!

Right, Im up and running, I will start from the next fill up.
I am verry happy to see improvement in fuel consumption. Because I hope Fiat will put that engine in punto evo and then I will be verry intrested in Evo. 306 maxi great fuel consumption. I with my punto 1.2 making 48mpg. So you have more HP, and the car is probably heavier (my punto is about 860kg). Great!

The average fuel consumption is dependent on when it was last reset.
I find looking at the instant fuel consumption is too distracting and leave it on 'Range'which gives a good indication of how you are doing against the current average fuel consumption.
The TwinAir is difficult to drive very economically and easy to burn it, hence the figures that are being seen.
For what it is worth our TwinAir has covered around 200 miles at about 45-47 mpg.
It is generally in eco mode, and feathered, with the occasional heavier prod when exiting a village or town.
It would be very easy to do worse than that 45mpg as the engine is so fruity, but I reckon you'd have to be a saint or on a long steady journey to significantly better it.

Yes its depend what weather is. But when I drive my punto on short trips his fuel consumption can be about 10l. so difrence between cold weather-worm is no so big like in short trips-long trips. And if you get mpg like I in my punto is great because you have 85HP and I have only 60. So better performance with at least same mpg.
well hoping to get out for a run in one of these this week sometime, a friend of mine pointed out he can get me a friend and familiy deal and this i am lead to believe is £1,250 worth of options and accessories on a 500 rather than a discount so its becoming an attractive proposition, my wife has been investigating names for it already and i think a woman yesterday thought i was a stalker when checker her alloys out
well i have to admit the twin-air surprised me today, i amsolutely loved it and that engine noise really put a smile on the face, absoluting cracking little car, Mrs Wigit drove its door handles off and consensus was would be a great addition to the fleet and was a real hoot
the only hiccup was current pcp deal means needs to be registered this month etc etc so no deal was done as i dont want it this month and looked like factory order, will be interseting if Thames Fiat in Slough get back, when guy said list price was best deal he seamed shock when i got up shook his hand and said i wouldn't be wasting anymore of my time
so a bit gutted by it all but we'll see what happens in April
having had cars with black headlinings recently have to admit strangley i would be speccing the fixed roof (on a sport) as the light headlining was the only let down that felt cheap, why oh why they can't do Abarth black
