62 plate Twinair Dualogic 55k miles
Hi, first post here but I've browsed a fair amount.
This bit might be a bit long winded but might be some relevant information.
I noticed the car had a slow coolant leak right after it's first service after it was bought. I bought 10l of coolant and didn't get time to fix it so just kept topping it up. After a few months I had time to have a look and saw pink coolant running down the front of the engine. Thought it would be a quick thermostat/water pump replacement but after booking it in to an independent garage, they told me it was more serious and was coming from seals behind the timing cover.
In the end, since everything was going to be taken apart anyway, I had the oil + filter, timing cover gasket, thermostat housing, water pump + housing and timing chain changed. The car seemed to drive fine (wasn't 100% sure the coolant leak had stopped but didn't get time to check).
A couple of days later, after picking my gf up from work and going to the cinema, on the way home the car went in to limp mode and the eobd light came on. Called the AA out who did a scan which came back with:
P0302 - Misfire detection, cylinder 2
P0300 - Misfire detection
He checked the plugs and the coils and they all seemed fine, the engine light went out before he could reset anything so he just followed me home to see if it would come back. We got back without any error but he mentioned on the final report that gets emailed, it showed another fault saying P1120 Throttle Valve Position. Drove it again the next day and after 25 or so miles the error came back. I read a thread on here that mentioned it could be caused by hitting both pedals at once so I reset the error to test it, making sure I was only touching one pedal and the error came back in less than a mile. I bought multiecuscan to test and this is what came back:
Functioning time (EEPROM) 241744
Operating time 241744
READING ERROR CODES:
1. P1120-61 - Throttle valve position control
ERROR DETAILS:
Operating time 241721 min
Engine speed 3370 rpm
Engine temperature 40 °C
Gas pedal position 35.06 %
Intake pressure 1021 mbar
Spark advance 22.250 deg.
Solenoid valve closing angle (command 1) 618.06 deg.
Battery voltage 14.88 V
UniAir electrovalve actuation mode Full-lift
Clutch pedal Released
Clutch contact 2 Released
Brake pedal Pressed
Brake contact 2 Released
I have no idea if there is anything on there that gives any relevant info apart from the error code.
On my paperwork from the garage it mentions the throttle body was removed and reinstalled, along with a long list of other things.
I did a search and most of the P1120 threads don't seem to be updated with what solved it. So I was just wondering if anyone knows if the P1120 fault relates to the throttle body sensor, or the one on the pedals? I don't really want to take it back to a garage for another £1000 bill unless it's something that I really can't do myself. Also is it worth trying the throttle position relearn feature in MES?
Thanks for any help and sorry for the long post.
