I'm doing the second oil change in our Panda Twin Air.
With the filter canister and filter removed, there's about half a cup of old dirty oli in the base of the filter housing.
Is this normal? Am I supposed to drain it away somehow? It seems a shame to contaminate clean oil with this much dirty old oil.

Thanks 👍, I'll think about some way to suck it up next change.
Yes, running Penrite Enviro+ full synthetic 5W-40.
ACEA C3
Car hasn't used a drop in 9000 km, old oil looked very dirty but probably fine for another 5000 km but I prefer 9-10000 km changes. Almost all open road running.

My 2013 punto is on "a varied diet" , but all 5-40 c3

Not as happy on the Castrol it got on its last change, so perusing the options again

The NAPA oil is weirdly approved for my Mito (a half bottle came with the car) , but not the FIAT TA's

The mito underperforms, so I don't really want to emasculate my punto to the same dullness 😝

Same as last fill. Meets the Fiat spec in the handbook.

Did you open the oil filter cap and change the filter first and then drain the oil underneath or the other way around? I do the filter first because that was the way I was taught to do it but I wonder if you drain the oil first if there is less oil left in the filter housing?

Thanks for posting about the oil filter bade being filled with oil!! Even though I've done a few TA oil changes, I don't remember it being full of oil.

I do filter second & always have done... Just in case there is an issue getting the sump plug off.

How about putting the filter element into the cap or the base first? There are pictures kicking around with the element in the cap, but if you do it that way I assume the tab won't locate in the base? On the Twinair I do element into base first, but on my Multijet it's element into cap first.

I put element into cap 1st locating the tab is a bit fiddly but if not lined up correctly it causes the oil pressure light to come on

My oil comes out the same I put it down to such a small engine it needs to work that bit harder that’s why the TwinAir is so reliant on genuine oil my car never uses a drop between changes
