mint, so you went through with it then :)

You decided what turbo setup to go with? I assume there isnt enough space for the abarth turbo and manifold on a cinq? Although you dont technically need a slam panel... lol :D

I'l get the map off my laptop sometime, it has no internet atm though.

Munkul im looking into it. the 8valve decompression plate i have will fit but might look into piston mods first.

Im going to use my current hybrid turbo. but unsure on the manifold. I might make a jig from the 8valve manifold and build a proper manifold for it (jig is so that it will match up with my exhaust system)

But as I say im looking into it more then anything. im building a 16valve for my mate. if that goes well and I feel the engine is up to it then ill give it a shot.

Look forward to seeing your MSQ :)

engine stripped. wow there is a lot of weight to all that aircon crap!
engine oil was brand new by the look of it. cam belt pulley and pump also look new.
bad bit being that who ever did it used the old tippex on the pulley for timing it.

you should check the threaded holes for the cam carrier for damage, can be a right PITA if you find damage when you are putting it back together

ahh.
this engine has never been apart by the look of it so should be O.K.
have helicoils anyway.

any other tips? :)

not much more then id think you know

best to check cam bearing faces, the anti-back lash spring in the one pulley on the intake cam is nice and strong

did find some gummy deposits on the plate running across the main bearing caps

thanks.

I have a manual for a bravo 16valve. mentions making a plate to hold the tappets in.
is that needed?

while talking about tappets... yet to hold one in my hand but do they wear? gum up? can they be stripped and cleaned?

i made 2 of these plates up, id say they are needed to reassemble and strip them down so you don't mix them up and/or fallout

i didn't look closely at them to see if they could be stripped down i just put them in some petrol to soak to, took each one out gave it a good shake in the petrol then put it in some clean petrol for another soak

and to tension the belt up i found it easier to grip the tensioner on the part you have to turn with adjustable grips, makes it easier to do rather then the little tool needed

marks on the cam lobe contact area... you should be able to see light markings on them all, but if the mark is deep enough to feel with your finger i'd be looking for some replacements. Having said that, it would probably be fine anyways, I stripped what sounded and drove like a perfectly healthy engine to find every tappet was worn.
They can gum up yes, but I wouldnt worry its not common. If you empty every tappet of oil (squish them) they can take a while to refill on first start-up.
