Tuning turbo time!

Im waiting for more day light after work till start cracking on but with having another car nothing is being rushed.
Good work though

wish i still had the enthusiasm that you've got fella :p

lol Im not doing this to have a fast car. if i wanted that i would just of sold my cinq and the turbo cinq and have more enough money to get a car that would kill any cento (probably wont be as fun tho:p)

I do this out of interest and to learn about these things. i also keep notes and loads of photos so I can use them on my course. (2birds with one stone kinda thing ;))

cheers fingers ill have a look (i have noticed that when the fan does kick in the central locking clicks... same if press the rear wiper... humm...) but really i think ecu controlled will be the best and maybe more reliable way to go

thats the problem. i only have one car. my bikes a supermoto so using that on a motorway is not very fun (even more so when its windy and wet).
dads moaning as hes car has been evicted off the drive :p

right cars getting better... had a few quotes done for me zorst.
turbo is now running up to half a bar and it REALLLLY shifts.

anyway... few more questions...
when i rev the car just a little (2k ish) the dump valve stays shut but the turbo makes a good bit of chatter... is that ok/normal?

anyone know the standard waste gate pressure of the astra diesel turbo? i have the EBC turned off and boost dont seem to go much higher then half a bar.

Points to dodgy earth. Dunno if ECU controlled is more reliable per se (certainly more controllable!) but will rely on good earth anyway............

All that is with your blow off valve is the spring thats in it is a bit stiff, some say it can cause problems,
i liked the chatter for low boost so intentionally bought one with a stiff spring
i cant see it being a problem as yours seems to do it with very little boost if its below 2k rpm

It could well be that the arm on the wastegate is set to 7psi (which is about the max if you have no intercooler). You can usually adjust them (the bar is usually threaded). Do this at your own risk a little at a time.

An alternative explanation is that the cut out on the take off plate to the downpipe isn't deep enough and is being whacked.

The BOV should only operate when you come off the throttle.

a look or a test? It's a very, very simple circuit -- a live feed to the fan motor, an earth from the fan motor via the rad switch.
oh! i mentioned before that i works perfect if you bypass the radiator switch! its what i had to do on a motorway a while back when it came to a stand still.

yeh this would be VERY low boost. its just when you flick the throttle. you can actualy hear the air rush backwards out the airfilter.
I took my BOV apart to see if it was sticking. the part with the big spring (that you can change) that is opened by vacuum is always open while i get this chatter(as it should). its the little spring that holds a cap over the boost that seems to be not weak enough... cant replace it tho.

I only really needed to know because i need to set up the EBC but i cant do that until i have reached the boost level that opens the waste gate. and tuned that area.
looking at my datalogs the boost stops at .5bar so i guess this is the waste gate opening

car booked in at Ashley competition exhausts having an full 2" stainless system. having it pretty well silenced and nothing shiny sticking out the back of the car. (stealth FTW!!)

getting it a little cheaper then normal as the people are in same car club as me. :slayer: cant wait.

had a blast down the motorway today. car pulls like a train from pretty low revs in 5th. still only running .4-.5 bar. datalogs looking good. drives smooth... smoother then when N/A! doing good on fuel to... might be more down to me always trying to drive it off boost.

so far so good!

 cooool mate, sounds like its coming along nicely! (y)

makes me wanna turb my Sei thats sitting in the garage... but I MUST resist  lol

lol maybe but i dont want to draw TO much (of the wrong) attention. as it is now... chavs dont know if to laugh or jizz themselves

datalogs and msq on their way (dont laugh as the map... slowly getting there!)

*attached* tell me if you see anything dodgy!...btw coolant temp fluctuates between 70 and 90 a good bit. thats cos i redid the low temp thermostat again (works this time) cos the car over heated.
it goes upto 90 when stuck in traffic cos thats what the fan comes on at.. but once moving drops to 70.

I can tell you from personal experience that if they are driving a new mini they get seriously pi**ed of when you accelerate away from them and then when they do catch you up they cry when they realise that they can't slow down for corners a quickly as you can and take out a road sign after mounting the curb:eek:

Good effort.
I had a run in with a new mini with my old N/A setup, he tryed to overtake:rolleyes:

stealth like this
but instead of it coming out straight it bends up around 45degrees
